Has anyone heard anything about the U.S. government extending visa expiration dates? My fiancée was due to fly to the U.S. in April, but the government has advised against flying and, with things changing daily due to the Coronavirus, it may not even be possible.

Unfortunately I do not think that is much precedent for extending visa dates wholesale. What could possibly be done is issue new visas gratis (free) to replace old expired visas which were affected by the ban.

Even that is unlikely when a visa had validity over six months and the travel ban does not cover six months. In effect you’re to blame for taking a visa and delaying in traveling to the USA until the travel ban hit. K1 Applicants had six whole months to enter. There’s a reason they give that time window, more than enough time to get ones house in order to relocate.

Good luck but don’t count on it.

Hello,

My finacee was issued a k-1 visa on 01/30/2020 and the validity was for less than 3 months. Is to expire on 04/24/2020. We were planning on me going to her country on 04/10/2020 and come back together on 04/14/2020 (I even had my airline tickets booked and hotel reservation). Now, because of COVID-19, her country closed its airport until 04/25/2020 (since 03/18/2020).

Since her visa is going to expire on 04/24/2020 and there was no way to fly out, do you think we can get the K-1 visa issued (issued with a validity period of less than 3 months).

Please let me know what you think and what we should do. Is there any probability to have an extension?

Thanks,

Thanks,

When the consulate reopens they "can" reissue the Visa with a new medical, application, fee and interview.

Hello, I have the same question. My visa expires on July 14 and I've read in some website that is possible that the Visa gets extended another 4 months by the consulate if you explain the reasons and keep the intent to marry your fiance/e (before traveling to the US though if you traveled 90 days are a different story)

The consulate of my country is closed at the moment. And I really wanted to ask for an extension of my approved K1 visa. Have anyone done this before? Is it possible as many websites and lawyers says? I would highly appreciate your experiences on this topic.

Wasn't sure about starting a new topic or reply on this one.

Thanks

The petition approval can be extended.  The visa expires based on the date of the medical.   The medical has a set expiration which cannot be extended

YMMV
