My K1 visa was approved but I have not left to the US

Hi everyone,

I am a Mexican national and our K1 Fiance visa was approved in Juarez February 19th. My visa says I have until the 18th of August to enter the United States. Our plans were to wait it out until July so we could secure a venue and properly plan our wedding in Dallas. With the COVID pandemic, we have now postponed plans to have a big wedding and instead do something intimate. Will I have any issue flying from Mexico by myself without my fiancee in the next few weeks?

Who knows for sure.  Just a short three weeks ago, I am not sure anyone saw the EU/UK restrictions would be coming.  Personally, if I were you, I would head to the US soon.

Good Luck!

As long as there is no travel ban between Mexico and the US, you can fly to the US. There is no requirement for you and your fiancee to travel together.

Personally, I would get inside the USA asap........else you risk of being locked outside the US for an extended time......just my opinion.

Agree.  There is no real frame of reference for this situation which continues to escalate.  I would have the non-USC enter the US as soon as possible.

I agree. Enter as soon as you can. And if you're within the 90 days to get married, then you can have a courthouse marriage just to get the marriage certificate. You can still have your actual, religious, ceremonial and family wedding on the date in July. But for the sake of logistics, it's probably better to do it sooner than later. Who knows if this coronavirus situation will get worse before it gets better.

I learned the hard way, I hope YOU don't have to. Advice: learn, learn, learn.

I would travel as soon as possible. We dont know when it would not be possible to enter the US anymore.

I didn't think the US/Canada border was going to shut down, but now news is coming that it might be down for "non-essential travel" in the next couple days. I can't predict what July will be like, but if you have the option to come to the US tomorrow or soon, you should really consider taking it.

I am in the very small minority who don’t believe with five months validity left on your visa you should be dropping everything in your life to make a beeline for the USA. Speaking for myself, not telling you how to live your life.

I think those who believe the USA will/can keep the travel ban indefinitely are delusional. 😂😝😂. The corporation$ who control America simply won’t allow it. China and South Korea have gotten their pandemic under control and South Korea has kept travel open throughout.

Yeah yeah yeah I know the USA is not China nor South Korea however I have total confidence the USA will tame the plague within four months now that testing is ramping up. I mean if South Korea with intense testing tamed this thing in just two months, why won’t the USA be able to reach steady state in four months?

That said make the choice you are most comfortable with. Come as soon as you reasonably can. This is what I would do. We all have different risk tolerance.

If Mexico keeps allowing this,

shutting border is inevitable.

my fiance came from mexico with the k1 just this past monday because we wanted to get ahead of any possible travel restrictions. we were going to have a courthouse wedding since it isn't advisable to have a big ceremony with many people. however, the courthouse closed to the public effective tuesday so we didnt even have a chance to go. so now we're just hoping this blows over soon so we can marry and prepare AOS within 90 days. I'm definitely happy he is here with me and i wouldn't change our decision for him to come now.

so if your plan is already to come in July, i would keep that plan. it seems like other countries are already containing this virus so 3-4 months should hopefully be enough time for this to blow over. but of course no one knows for sure.
