So interview was Sunday in Abu Dhabi. It went great, my fiancé did get a blue 221g requesting my sons medical file. I was there with him so he told my fiancé to have me email him the papers requested as he was there for 2 more hours. He said if he had the papers he would have approved him on the spot. They kept his passport. Told him within 10 days he should have it. My fiancé’s passport expires on March 19 for UAE and he has to exit the country by April 15. The officer knew this. Last night he gets an email to pick up mail at empost from the visa department. It was his passport back with a white 221g that has the passport box checked and handwritten the embassy will contact you. That’s it.  Could this be because the embassy closed and they didn’t want to hold his passport with it expiring and will wait until it opens again ? We are so confused. We had tons of proof and even the interview went good. Thoughts ?

Visas are never approved on the spot.  All cases go through some form of review and administrative processing before approval.  Some countries and some cases require extended AP which can last for many weeks or many months  With the current Covid-19 complications, things get even more uncertain.  At this point, all you can do is to patiently wait it out.   I know that isn't easy to hear, but it is the reality of the situation.  Good luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Do you mean his visa to be able to stay in UAE expires soon? If it is his passport he needs a new one.

As Lucky Cat mentioned this is a multi part process, I wish they would make that clearer, seems to confuse many people.

Quit when he is ready to move?

Or move back to his home country, that could complicate the AP process.

Yes he won’t go back to his home country so I guess we will figure when it’s time. Limbo sucks but I know it’s common

So when an embassy halts all immigration and non immigration visa activity this includes issuing them I’m guessing ?

Unclear, may well slow down AP.
