i've considered sending my husband to the US to activate it, but if he gets stuck there we're in trouble (we're both living in Australia)

Can you get the Philippines Airlines flight to Guam and back?

Like many of you I'm in the same boat, K-1 Visa & was due to travel out Monday, my Visa expires next late next week.
I've spoken to the London embassy by phone/email and they said to wait until my Visa expires and apply for a re-issuance, however, my understanding previously was that only J, O & P Visa's could be re-issued?
Does anyone have any information on this?

I'm no further forward, sent emails to the US embassy in Amsterdam, still no response, can't get anyone by phone, if you have any info to share could you please let me know.

Well I know all of that, my question is what happens when the visa expires.

Hopefully, you start back at the consulate and a new medical.   It is up to the consulate.

It may happen that they respond soon, but I wouldn’t expect any responses from the embassy to non-emergency queries in the meanwhile.

I would assume every case and consulate is different, but Sydney say they will only reissue after the visa is expired, and we would need to re pay a visa fee, new medical, new police check, re do form DS 260 (for CR1 visa)

For what it's worth, I asked Bangkok Embassy about this and received this response:

Quote

Dear Sir/Madam:

Thank you for your email.

If an applicant with a valid immigrant visa wants to extend the period they can travel to the US, the Immigrant Visa Unit will need to cancel their current visa and issue a new visa in their passport.  To do this, the applicant will need to do the following, in this order:

  1. Contact the Immigrant Visa Unit at Embassy Bangkok to inform them of their request by email
  2. Get a new medical exam (because the visa validity is tied to the expiration of the current medical exam)
  3. Possibly get new Police Certificates issued (they are valid for one year from date of issue, so it depends when they were issued)
  4. Pay a new immigrant visa application fee

Since there is considerable cost to do this, we recommend applicants do not go this route until the current visa they have in their passport has either expired, or will soon expire and they are sure they will not be able to travel before its expiration.  There is no penalty for letting the current visa expire and then starting the above process, so there is no need to do this until you are absolutely sure you will not be able to travel during their current visa’s validity.

Regards,

Immigrant Visa Unit

U.S. Embassy Bangkok

Hope this gives someone peace of mind.
