Thank you so much for your reply! Unfortunately I have to reschedule my interview as there are no flights available (Brisbane to Sydney) - they have all sold out. I will get my medical done on Tuesday and try to get an interview for the week starting 18 May. It's so unfortunate 😌

@Cilllah I checked this website for state and border closures https://www.interstatequarantine.org.au/state-and-territory-border-closures/

I am from Queensland and once I return from Sydney I expect I will have to go into quarantine for 14 days but I have applied for an exemption on compassionate grounds. I am not sure if my exemption will be granted but I thought I would try.

I am from QLD too. I don't mind quarantining when I return but I was wondering if we would have to quarantine when we get to Sydney.. I just wanted to fly in and out the same day.

I’m sure the consulate will understand, since there really aren’t many flight options. I ended up staying two nights in Sydney for a 5 minute interview just because there weren’t any flights available! You’ll get your interview for sure though, and it’ll be all over soon ❤️

He didn't have to quarantine in Sydney when he flew in from Melbourne.

I would double check if anything's changed but as of a month ago there was no quarantine domestically.

I checked the Sydney airport website for information about quarantining after travelling from other state and found the following:

No. The 14-day mandatory quarantine is only required for overseas travellers arriving into Australia.

I can confirm too. When I went last week, there was no quarantine necessary.

Those that are flying from south Queensland to Sydney for an interview keep in mind that if you cant get a flight from Brisbane there are airports at the Goldcoast, Toowoomba and the sunshine coast.

I was about 6 seconds away from renting a car and driving to Sydney when i remembered there are flights from the goldcoast.

For those of you who were granted emergency interviews try to schedule your medical well in advance. The embassy received my Medical Exam on 1 May, interview was on 5 May and they confirmed that they received my Medical. My case is still under administrative processing (was changed to "refused") due to the consular section not having paired my Exam with my application. This has been the consulates response thus far “Currently, our mail intake process may take up to 1-3 days from when mail arrives at our office until it is delivered to the consular section and is paired with your application. This delay and the discrepancy between post being marked "received" and it being paired with your file is routine, especially at the present time.”

As of right now its been 7 business days since they received my medical and 5 business days since my interview, we don't know how much a missing medical on the day of your interview will delay your case.

That makes me wonder if I should just do my medical now so it is ready to go.. But then I worry about wasting $1000 if my emergency isn't granted?

Hmm. I would probably go ahead and do the medical before getting an interview. There are people in the UK I've seen that are getting k1 visa interviews for July. I would suggest being prepared as possible for the interview it shows imo that your ready to move forward.

Alright. I will do that. My fiance has renal failure and I really need to support him especially as he can't now leave the house due to pandemic so I am hoping I am accepted on compassionate grounds.

I'm sorry he's dealing with that, I've had some people I know go through that its definitely not pleasant. I'm sure its beyond stressful and scary.  -hugs-

I doubt you'll have any issues getting an interview. Just be sure to state the urgency of the emotional and physical support he needs at the moment. But don't make it look like your his nurse or there's no romantic ties to him. If that makes sense.

Just covering the bases.

Oh I am definitely not that!
Do you have any ideas of things that I should state? I was just basically going to mention due to his illness he is now unable to work and we need to be reunited for financial and emotional support. Worded better. His family are all essential workers so they can not assist.

I think you're on the right track. When I was asked to write my claim, I had to write it in terms of the US citizen's hardship if I couldn't go to the US. I think you've got enough there to request an emergency interview.
