Hello my new VJ family,

I'm looking into as many as the K-1 & K-3 timeline processes as i can right now, so when i go to file i will know what i need to do.

I have been told 2 different ways so far, #1, that K-3 is faster & easier, and #2, that the K-1 is faster & easier. Knowing Lagos, and alls its dilemma's, i would like to hear from any of you who have had to go thru the Lagos offices.

Maybe i am not even totally understanding all this. But i am trying. My Fiance wants me to come to Nigeria and marry him there first (and i would love that! more than anything in this world!) but i'm starting to see that the K-1 is better for us just becuz of Lagos immigration office, or is it? I am a bit confused...cuz i was thinking that if they saw we were already married that was the best proof of our in tentions, is that not so?

so.....

#1. Thru Lagos is K-1 really faster & easier?

#2. Is proof of relationship easier to prove in Lagos thru K-1 or K-3?

#3. Are the fees any better between the two?

#4. Has anyone ever been able to stay over in Nigeira with their fiance/spouce while waiting the process?

#5. Do the People at Lagos really try to stop your process. (trying to protect us is one thing, but trying to over throw us is another) i need to hear from you...oh and i have private email...if you contact me first thru my profile.

I read this in the FAQ... emphasis are mine... sounds scarey! :

Whereas the K1/K2 visa process is fairly straightforward, the K3/K4 is not as simple. It is important for the US Citizen to be informed and attentive to detail, because there are several opportunities to make mistakes and omissions which could result in unpleasant surprises. Immigrating to the United States via the K3/K4 is not such an automatic process as is experienced by the K1/K2.

PLZ let me hear from you!

Thanks in advance for all your responces! (L)

Hi I'm new at this too. But I will try to tell you a little bit that I know and have heard. They say that the K-1 is faster if you can prove your relationship is legit and you have met in the last 2 yrs. The K-3 visa you still have to prove that your marriage is bona fide. There is like a 30 dollar difference between the two but I think the fees go up at the end of this month.

I am sure you can stay in Lagos while waiting for the process I think that is great if you are able.

I have never heard people inLagos or the embassy trying to stop the process so I am not sure what you mean by that.

Yes Lagos is a very tough embassy because Nigeria is known for scam artists so it makes it hard for those of us that are for real, I think any way you go will not be easy or automatic but if you are for real anyway that you go you will be okay and you will find a lot of people to help you on this website. I don't have that much experience yet but I did go to Nigeria to marry my husband because I thought it was best and I filed the I-130 and the I-129F.

But Good Luck on whatever you decide and let me know.

It is true that K1 does work for a lot of people. However, I see it as a bit risky. If you are denied, your alternative would be to go back to Nigeria again and mary, then file for the K3 or Cr1.

Several VJers have been denied the K1 in Lagos for not meeting the income requirements. At one time Lagos was not excepting co-sponsors for k1 visas. Yet, it just seemes to depend on the individual case, because others with similar circumstances, were not denied. I do not know your situation, but if you decide to go with the K1, take lots of pictures and save your phone records, cards, and emails. This will definately help.
