    Yes it's capitalism, but capitalists still have to follow the same laws as everyone else. Which means you can't price gouge items like that in an emergency. Doesn't matter whether you think it's a public service or not.

 

   Like I said, they really need to crack down on the worst offenders with fines and make people think twice about doing it. I think this guy saw that's what was coming.

$1-2 extra no one would have cared but being super greedy and selfish got them infamy and public shame. Hopefully they will confiscate any profits made from the gouging and fine them in addition.

I was halfway joking. John Stossel did a piece one time on this subject. He mused that as supplies dwindle,  prices rising sharply discouraged hoarding.

   Yeah I see people selling their toilet paper on eBay already for 20% over normal. I think people realize it's going to be on sale pretty soon. Once people stop buying it, the shelves will be overstocked PDQ, and no one really needs any for a while.
