Hi all, have read old topics on vaccination and still a little unclear to me, can somebody confirm that vaccinations are not required for K-1 visa issuance, but rather for the Adjustment of Status?

My fiance and I are in a disagreement over this and it needs to be settled!

Second question - assuming the above is the case, it seems most on this forum think vaccinations done in the beneficiaries home country are the best way to go - just because they are generally cheaper.  For my health insurance in the USA, vaccinations would be free - but to get my fiance on my plan we would need to marry first.  Is there time in between marriage and Adjustment of Status to get my fiance on my health insurance plan and get the vaccinations done?

thanks

Needing a US medical is not cheap. And not normally covered by insurance.

I don't know if it's the same for every country but I was told to bring my vaccination record to the medical appointment so that they can confirm I have all the required ones and that they will give missing ones there. I read reviews of a different clinic in my country not offering them on-site though. You should probably have them before rather than later, I think.

The vaccinations ARE optional.

And no, Insurance does not cover the medical,BUT insurance does cover the vaccines as long as its for "well being".

My wife was missing ALL vaccines and her son.  We wouldve been paying 500-700 for vaccines during her medical over seas.

We got them for free here, not a dime paid, and completed her i693 vaccine portions here for $120 total. (60 to transcibe the vaccines per each)

Transcribing Costs vary and its to search and call different civil surgeons that are allowed to fill and sign the i693.

My wife entered sept. 11th, we married sept. 20th, she was on my insurance by october 3rd.

@Russel1995 Has given excellent instructions on what steps you can take.

I'll add if your vaccinations are cheaper in your country get them there if not you'll need them to file the AOS. If you are going on the petitioner's health insurance it's advisable that you get your social security number within days of arriving in the US. Most employers and insurance company's require a SSN to add the beneficiary to the petitioners policy. There is a forum on applying for SSN here on VJ.

Boiler, thanks for replying but this didn't answer my questions at all :)   I am familiar with my own policy and yes vaccinations would be covered under my current health insurance plan.  I'm not asking about a full medical exam.  Thanks.

Your focus seems to be saving money, certainly for me  the ones I had missing were free to get done, I assume she could get them done at relatively low cost compared to the US if she has to pay at all.

And they are done. You can file to adjust without another issue.

Otherwise you come to the US, have to find a Surgeon who will not overcharge, many seem to insist on doing the full medical and charge accordingly, travel to that Surgeon, get the paperwork done maybe recover some of the costs of the injections from your Insurer but have to pay the balance.

Seems a no brainer.

I was planning on getting my vaccinations topped up now, whilst waiting for the NOA2... would that be wise?

We only just got our NOA1 last week, but anything I can do to be 'ready' for sooner is good in my eyes.

Yes. If you can complete them in your home country.... do that, it will save time and make things easier for AOS.

Especially if you only need a few.

My wife tried to get her vaccines in her country of which would have been free, but she ran into issues with dr.s refusing to give them due to her age (not a minor), her son did get a few but didnt get caught up to what the US required.

I would, no downside.

This might help you decide where and how much you will spend. Shop wisely. Before you do anything find the sub-forum for the UK and ask others what they are doing.

http://www.visamedicals.co.uk/us-price.htm

Also, you will need receipts so the medical exam ppl can transpose them to the DS-3025 which is needed for the AOS

IN SUMMARY: You have two choices. First is to get your vaccinations done there in your country as they are usually are cheaper. Second is not to vaccinations but you will need them once you start your AOS submittal. At that time you will need to see a "civil surgeon" for them to either administer your vaccinations or to transpose them to the I-693 for your AOS package. CS will charge you anywhere from $75 - $250 for this service. Some will charge you more. So buyer beware. Either way you must have vaccinations to complete your AOS for the 2 year green card.

If you get a DS-3025 from the medical exam with all vaccinations complete then you use it for the AOS package and the I-693 isn't required.

From the Form I-693 instructions (page 6-7):

"Even if a new medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements. If the vaccination record (DS 3025) was not properly completed and included as part of the original overseas medical examination report, you will have to have the Part 7. Vaccination Record completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you must submit Parts 1., 2., 4., and 7. of Form I-693."

Thanks for all this... Very Helpful. I had a few vaccinations topped up in 2017, so I think I'll get the rest in the UK. I recently transferred doctors, so I'm waiting for all of my records to be available, to see exactly which I'll need. But I'm definitely on it.

Vaccinations are absolutely not optional, I was told by the doc in Amsterdam that I would fail the exam if I didn't have all vaccinations on the list, it cost me a fortune over a few months, but it was the only way forward.

They are required, but for a K1 they are required after you are marry and file to adjust, like I said silly not to get them done before hand.

They most certainly are optional for a K1 visa applicant.  Bottom of ds3025 will be checked as "not complete"

my wifes says "k1 visa applicant electing not to get vaccinated at this time"

They are NOT optional for AOS.
