Sounds great, until it actually happens.  I bet it would take about 30 minutes for people to be crying about their constitutional rights being violated on the news.

I agree with you, people are idiots, like the guy who flew from JFK-PBI last week after being told by his doctor that he had the virus.  Reee-diculous.  But logical folk don't need quarantines nor draconian measures to just stay home and avoid others as much as possible.  I am doing it without anyone forcing it on me, as I am sure you are too.  I go out if I need something, and I still talk to my neighbors, though it's from a bit farther away now.  And if I start coughing and have a fever, I will self-isolate until I am better, plus a few extra days to be sure.

Curfews are already in place.  I hear NJ enjoyed their first night of it last night?  I am sure more will be put into place this week in various other areas.

ETA: I just watched a video from a foreign country where the police stopped a fellow driving down the street with his window down.  They forced hi to get out of his car, threw a hood over his head, took him to the side of the street, and proceeded to spray him down with some sort of chemical (I assume it was to "decontaminate" him?).  It can get rather silly rather quickly as fear spreads.

You kidding? I know someone that started screaming about it the moment they closed the library and told restaurants to do carry out. Something something Constitutional rights. I tried explaining that governors have broad state's rights powers when they declare a state of emergency.. but there was just no rational explaining.. because patriotism and they think it's some kind of god-given right to sit inside a McD's instead of using a drive-thru and people are totally going to grab guns and riot.

*sigh*

We have to strike the right balance between not violating civil liberties and totalitarianism. I get reaallllly annoyed when people say this is just like China's actions... because we are miles away from that direction. Civil liberties invariably to some degree do get violated during emergency times with specific powers and they could kick it up the chain to SCOTUS if they wanted, though certainly governments could pass a compelling interest test... and I think a person would have a hard time proving sitting in a McD's vs public health risk was compelling. Sometimes I don't understand what people want - more federalism half the year and always state's rights the next. The right to run around and lick the walls to try and infect everyone because they feel fine or hoard everything under the sun and hide in their house and then yell at the government agency that tells them to stay in their house!
