Waiting till community spread has taken flight to ban Europeans from the USA is akin to locking the stable doors after the horses have already bolted. Any ban should have been at least a month ago. The Europeans are extremely upset and would probably not retaliate only because they don’t want to add to the chaos.

 

Total failure of leadership in the USA. As of Sunday, 1,707 Americans had been tested for the novel coronavirus, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. South Korea, by contrast, has tested more than 189,000 people. The two countries announced their first coronavirus cases on the same day. This is misleadership at its zenith.

 

Trumps hopes of getting re-elected for another term died on Monday as the stock market crashed and he was universally derided for bungling the USA response to the virus. He always ties his success to the performance of the market and now it’s all gone. GONE!  What does Trump do when he doesn’t get his way or when cornered? He behaves more erratically in a scorched earth fashion. Basically he will take everyone down with him as he’s going down. That’s what we’re seeing. Don’t be surprised if Trump bombs Venezuela or does some similarly asinine outrageous thing. 

 

It’s easy to lead a country when things are groovy going smooth. Your mettle as a leader is tested when things are crashing and Trump is failing in succession.  Trump is going to do some extremely stupid things now that he realizes it’s essentially game over. The lunatics have taken over the asylum and this president has zero credibility. Anytime he opens his mouth, the stock market swoons. Evidence that even the little credibility he never had is all gone.

Just wait until the left learn, when they take off their TDS binoculars, there are other countries on the planet. In Canada, for example, the Prime Minister's wife just got the virus and is in quarantine, the PM himself is in self-isolation. Just look at the headlines and the left's reaction because some members of Congress or at CPAC are in self isolation? Every western country has been massively impacted by this, it has nothing to do with Trump at all. TDS will never not be funny, and while one gets diminishing returns on the utility of repeatedly watching the left use every event that occurs as an opportunity to play this "its over for Trump" card (even dressing it up in the pseudo-intellectual babble the OP did), it's still great entertainment. Utterly deranged, but nonetheless, entertaining.

This is not a time for politics and democrats should be ashamed holding legislation hostage for political purposes. Pelosi is another shameless politician who should be forced to retire like most on Capitol Hill.

 

That said the Trump government has failed miserably to keep Americans safe and squandered the sox weeks grace period we had before this devilish virus jumped here from China.

I have felt safe all along, because I recognize this virus for what it is.  I still feel safe, I realize it's coming, and I will deal with it when I am exposed to it.  What would you have Trump do, create a vaccine for it himself?  His job is to run the country and reassure people, not visit hospitals and test people.  

 

Serious question... what would YOU have done were you in his shoes?  How do you feel he has failed so miserably that you could have improved upon?

This is the first somewhat sensible question which is why I am bothering to respond.

I hope you are actually open to reason, and we can reach some consensus. I won’t keep my fingers crossed though.

 

What could Trump do? A sensible competent president would have ensured that during the six or so weeks we had before this virus arrived here, testing capability was seriously ramped up. Is that too much to ask from the wealthiest most advanced superpower in the world?

2. I fully support travel bans FYI. My question is why wait until the cat was out of the bag before banning travel? And why exempt the UK where the virus is currently raging? 😝

  Regardless of how they have done in other areas, the administration was obviously not prepared to respond adequately to this situation. I am not saying that to be critical, and I don't care to speculate on the political outcomes because I don't really care. They just need to get it together right now.
