Coronavirus cabin fever

Everyone at my office is working from home, places are closing and advising people not to go out unless necessary....the thought of not being able to go out is driving me mad!

 

Vent here for coronavirus cabin fever concerns.  How is everyone coping?

Except for the last one and at least temporarily number 3, that mimics my list.  The spouse will be back on Monday (I hope), so that will be added.

 

We were also just informed today to work from home until further notice.  That will save me an hour and twenty minute commute (morning and evening), so a lot more running with the dog.

i start working from home temporarily on Monday....

 

i mostly just listen to music while i am at work on my computer anyways so the only difference for me is less obnoxious retards yapping loud enough so that people on the other side of our rather large building can hear every detail about whatever it is they want to complain about today. wont miss that one iota.

I'm painting my kitchen. Started Monday with removing the popcorn ceiling. 

I homeschool so I'm home already to begin with nothing changes for me. They closed all the schools here too. 

The Hillbilly still has to go to work on Monday as of now. That could change.

I went out for a walk around town today and it's like a ghost town here, despite that in Oregon we actually have a lot fewer cases than other states now. Many restaurants/cafes were closed or were closing early. We also had a freak snow dusting this morning, so that may have contributed to the relative quiet. 🌨️We don't have the busiest downtown but it was eerily quiet today. I saw one guy wearing a mask.

 

The majority of the folks I saw were all walking their dogs. I guess it's a bummer if you had a dog and can't go out...if actual lockdowns are put in places, not sure what dog owners are going to do, unless they have big yards at home. I've always thought owning a big dog and living in a downtown area was kind of odd, but now it makes even less sense really. Like @TBoneTX I'm a cat person so #notmyproblem.

I always wondered about this myself.  The whole point of quarantine is stay away from others.  If you are walking the dog by yourself in a quiet neighborhood, I would think that would be OK.

Thursday during my 28w OB appointment, my manager texted me and told me to work from home until further notice. So today is day three of WFH and day five of be at home. Thursday wasn't so bad because I left my house. Friday I got a little antsy, but my mom stopped by twice to check measurements for the nursery's curtains. Saturday I had planned on running, but it was storming a part of the day. I instead ran to a craft store and got supplies to make homemade bookends for the nursery. Sunday I had planned on running, but it was snowing. Usually I would run still but being in my last trimester I don't want to be outside running by myself if its going to be potentially icy to where I could fall and slip. So I watch Netflix and my husband and I Skyped with his parents for about an hour and a half, maybe two hours. I'm hoping the day goes by quickly today. If it stops raining maybe I'll finally get that run in.

 

While Skyping with my inlaws, we were talking about the difference in how countries are dealing with this. In the UK, the government isn't really advising anything besides "stock up on medication and wash your hands often". My MIL is an LTC Nurse and she was told by her boss that if she tested positive at work she would have to stay rather than go home and isolate. I have an older sister living in Madrid, and a Spanish sister (hosted by my parents through an exchange program) in Barcelona both of which are in lock down in their apartments. My older sister said one of her friends was out for a run the other day and she got stopped by police who asked what she was doing. If you're caught outside your living quarters without good reason there is a fine up to 1200€. My Italian sister (also hosted by my parents through an exchange program) was going to school in Turin, but was sent home to Sardinia to do online classes. She's been in lock down for more than a few weeks now. I guess school work is keeping her busy.

My older sister in Madrid, her roommates have a dog. They are all on lock down (with a hefty fine I mentioned above if they don't follow) but she made an Instagram video the other day her walking the dog. I guess as long as you're minding your own business its allowed.

Like many people in my generation, I don't watch the news. I also rarely read news unless it's in Russian or another foreign language to force myself to do something productive (foreign language skills)...I just think it helps my brain stay fit while getting informed at the same time. Occasionally, I check news in English but only headlines (unless it's something extremely important, like the local governor's orders, etc.)

 

So, yes, studying and learning a foreign language is a great thing to do during these weird times! Recommend it to anyone.

Maybe it would be less depressing if I watched the news in another language !! And then started to learn that language at the sane times!! Maybe ... 🤪

I find it to be the case! My brain spends a lot more time processing the grammar and language structure than the actual news so it works for me.

Another good idea to make news articles less intense: set your screen to B&W. There are some filters that can do this, it will make the sensationalism of the images less intense and the graphics as well, helps your brain to focus on the words. I also put a grayscale/b&w filter on my phone at night to reduce eye strain.
