If I were in that position, one of my very top criteria would be "where there's no state income tax."

My first choice would be to go where I wanted to go and ask/demand more money. No state income tax is nice, but no reason to live in some dump just because there is no income tax. There are many things to evaluate, but you can sometimes tell which states have no income tax just by looking around as you drive through.

I loved the time I spent living/working in Hawaii when I was younger. High taxes, high cost of living, and they didn't even pay that well, but the trade off was spectacular.

Majority of new COVID-19 hospitalizations in New York are people who stayed at home

I think it was already brought up that NY was probably too far along the curve for quarantine to be as effective as it could be. Too many people were already infected. That is not to say things wouldn't have got worse if they didn't do that. It certainly would have been. It's just that they did it too late. There is only so much it could do at that point.

Most states did it early enough to have better results than NY did.

Probably, and yet Coumo is doubling down.  Btw, is it better to be holed up inside or outside in this type of situation.

Better is a relative term. You can only evaluate the situation based on the data available and make one choice or the other. They keep posting data that suggests 15-20% of people have already been infected in NYC. That means 80%-85% have not been. I think they are still taking that into account based on what they have already gone through and where they are at right now.  It's not like things couldn't get worse.

Containment is kind of a lost cause now isn’t it.

I don't think containment is the goal. From what I have read, NYC is still weeks out with bodies waiting for cremation and longer for burial. I don't think they are at the point that other places are at as far as opening up. Ultimately that decision falls on the governor, and like most government leaders, he has probably made some mistakes. There will be a time for all of them to answer for that.

The portrayal of doubling down on a mistake is not grounded in reality. They made this decision, and they have to live with it. They have to go forward based on what they have already done. Ideally they would have shut down earlier. That was the one mistake that could not be overcome. It's like calling the fire department when the house is half burned. You are not really left with any good outcomes, just hopefully preventing the worse ones.

I may soon be going back to work.  That is a good  thing and that is a bad thing.  I will be working with one child in one house 7 hours a day.  Of course the family is there.  I feel somewhat safe being in just one household.  But I do have asthma, COPD and high blood pressure.  So I am excited to make money again but scared out of my mind of getting sick.  There really is no choice.  I have to go back to work.  Is anyone else facing this dilemma of getting back to work when you are at high risk?

Apparently not as we already discussed, NY was placing Covid positive patients back in nursing homes, and they just recently started to disinfect their mass transit systems.  That being said, there are a lot of governors that seem to be still embracing containment for whatever it is worth.  Cuomo was talking about the need to reopen a week or so ago, but now he seems to be striking a different tune, and is instead begging for a bailout so NY can stay closed.

I got my walking path today and realized I left my headphones home. So I go down the road a bit to beat buy. Total lockdown. All employees in PPE and only doing curbside pick up from online orders.

So I go 4 doors down to Office Max and its like nothing out of the ordinary,  save the cashier wearing a mask.

Tell me how that makes any sense.  That is how the quarantine went, at least here. It was pointless and just put a lot of small biz out of biz

Not really scared, but can certainly understand your concerns. Take as many precautions as you can, and good luck!

When my niece first came to us to stay due to no work I had to get another computer for the kids to use for school work. So I was looking for a cheaper option and decided to go to best buy and they were only doing curbside here as well. I then went to Target then on to Office Max and they were exactly as you described. Even on base they were still allowing you to shop with a mask on.

Actually planning a move to PR next year for Act 20/22. Bye Bye IRS. It's not perfect, but there are some nice areas there, and I'll get to live close to the beach again.

I am excited to make money again but scared out of my mind of getting sick.

These are both natural feelings to have.  Avoid letting overworry make you sick.

Be sensible with hygiene, and keep up your excitement!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
