05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Georgia where I live just had its 3rd largest increase in over a month

Didn't you guys just open back up? I imagine that will be the pattern everywhere when we start to open up. There will be increases and decreases but hopefully overall numbers swill stay at a manageable level.

Yup. Not that we were ever really down. Most of our restaurants are not opening voluntarily

I don't really think a lot of people will be rushing out to go to restaurants right now anyway, even if they do open. I might do pickup I guess, but eating in is going to be a while, much as I would like to. BBQ season coming up, so we'll probably do more backyard cookouts than restaurants this year.

I wonder if they're not just going to lose even more money if they have to be open and staffed without seeing any actual customers, compared to just keeping their doors shut.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Plus there are a lot of requirements,  such as only 10 customers per 500 sq ft .

One owner pointed out, she would have no clue how much food to order

I can't really see restaurants functioning in a post-covid scenario without severe losses. At some point we might have a vaccine, but even then, I'm done sitting super close to strangers unless I absolutely have to. I guess I'll have to make an exception for concerts, but I wasn't a huge fan of giant arenas anyway. They're still the one thing I'm willing to make an exception for down the line.

I have adapted to not working and social distancing very well.

Me too, to a certain extent. I'm okay with social distancing and not working but I also wouldn't mind going back to work when things are safer.

I told my company today my doctor told me not to come back yet. They were real cool about it.

Said they would pay me since they were getting the money

Anyone who's unemployed due to COVID gets 70% of what they'd usually get plus some daily bonus. Timing isn't ideal since I was trying to save up for the move, but it is what it is. We were probably about two months away from the interview when this thing hit, so I already told them I was leaving at some point. I guess this has kind of shortened my time there, depending on when the Schengen-ban ends.

I’m right with you, investing in a nicer smoker for more at home dining out, it’ll pay for itself and last 10+ years

Got a BGE. I have had it for  10 years or so. It makes smoking meat really easy. You can also get it super hot and use it to cook a mean steak.
