Fascinating coincidence right after the outburst we had a year or so ago. I also wonder if it might have anything to do with Jewish Orthodox populations getting hit hard with Corona.

Possibly.  If this study grows, maybe they could include the impacts of immigrants to the US.

Well in lighter news-

We have a mandatory mask order in our community. Since my husband was former military he has a bunch of scarves/face covering type things- so he said he was fine. My daughter who is home from college said she would make us both masks. Great! One less thing for me right? She busted out my old sewing machine from storage and after several failed attempts announced she'd rather just get 'the corana' then try again. LOL> Apparently the pattern she found online was Martha Stewart advanced level! But then she found a pattern for a DIY crochet one, and her grandmother had taught her to crochet a long time ago. She spent most of the night crocheting away and presented 2 very nice homemade masks- just in time too since I got an email this morning that the dog food I ordered online was facing unexpected shipping delays so now we have to go out and try to buy some locally.

The plan was for me and my husband to go. He would drive and we would stop at 711 for gas and then pop over to the pet store and Id go in and grab the dog food. Total disaster. We got to 711 and my husband could not understand why it was not a good idea for him to go into 711 as a 6' 350lb tattooed man, openly carrying a gun and wearing a black ski mask... Out of all the things he has for possible face masks he chooses a black full face ski mask with a slot for eyes. So fine, whatever. I will go in and pay for and pump the gas. I have this fancy crocheted mask after all. Well I put it on and take no more then 2 steps and start sneezing uncontrollably. My daughter used a wool blend yarn to make them and I am allergic to wool! If you ever want to cause a scene and get death stares - start sneezing uncontrollably in public during a pandemic.

Hint:  Sew a label that says "100% cotton" into the woolen masks.  (We do this all the time at home in our closets, to fool the moths.)  You won't sneeze after that.

Focusing on the lemonade-from-lemons aspect:  at least your daughter knows how to crochet.  That's commendable.

Now if only she could crochet a pattern of the coronavirus onto her masks! :P

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

If you need a better pattern I can get you one. I couldn't make sense of the written pattern but the video it came with was just what was needed. With little sewing skills I made one and my ever-curious husband wanted a go. He ended up making two himself and he's never done any sewing since he was a kid. LOL@ the sneezing... it's terrible allergy season here, sneezing all the time. We try so hard not to do any sneezing in public because I know people would panic.

Allergies are kicking my butt as well.  I wonder if this will lead to discrimination of the allergy afflicted.

Missed this back in early April.  Even then, this did not appear to be a smart move.

We had that at one of the Jesuit nursing homes. The governor required the facility to have a special ward in case patients there started having COVID. Concerned relatives ended up leaking to the press that the home had basically 'smuggled' in infected priests from another state and were letting them live there. Didn't take long for residents to start getting infected. To my knowledge though at least in MD, with hundreds of elderly infected in care homes across the state, they were infected from outside sources (i'm assuming from asymptomatic staff, relatives, or when a resident had a medical checkup). None of these facilities though had enough PPE or even basic materials to care for these patients. Some of these places have multiple patients crammed into one room in basically someone's large house.

I thought we had learned based on what we saw in Washington that nursing homes, extended care facilities, or elderly care homes were particularly vulnerable.  Considering NY had a lot of space in their field hospital and the Comfort it seems sort of reckless to put these folks into a vulnerable location.

Interesting read. Besides what has already been mentioned, it might also explain the gender disparity, since they started giving MMR to girls (because of the rubella component), several years before it was recommended for both sexes in many countries.

They should be able to do population correlations fairly easily for several groups. We have one of the lowest MMR vaccination rates in the USA here in Colorado, but I believe most of the healthcare organizations here require workers to have proof of vaccination.

@yuna628 I would LOVE an easy to do pattern! PM it to me if you can or I can give you my email.

We did get our gas and a small bag of dog food. I made my husband remove his gun and leave it with me in the car while he went in. I also stressed to him to try to be as non-threatening as possible. While he didnt agree with either being necessary he knows I can be a bit over-reactive (where he can be a bit under-reactive IMO) so to appease me he left his gun and decided the best way to appear non threatening was to announce loudly upon walking in "Im not here to rob you. Just getting some dog food"

I think the worst thing is though my daughter KNEW it was a wool blend yarn. She just doesnt believe I am allergic to wool, says its all in my head. No idea why she thinks that way. She claims she checked a label on a sweater of mine she borrowed one time and it said it contained wool therefore I am not allergic to wool! I imagine that particular sweater either had a very low amount of wool in it or the wool was blended in in a way that didnt bother me so much? She is just insistent that I am making up having a wool allergy and will constantly and intentionally expose me to wool products in the hopes that she will prove I am faking it.

:o

That's terrible! I have read letters to Dear Prudence in Slate along similar lines and I just do NOT understand it. If someone tells you they are allergic/sensitive to something, why not honor that? The mind boggles. My fiance has a nightshade sensitivity that only really developed in his adulthood and he has to remind his family of this, but that's simply because they're forgetful, not because they think he's full of you know what.
