I think this discussion is relevant to the topic “All things Corona virus”.  I’m pretty much sure this means “All things” related to the Corona virus.

I already booked my flight to Ukraine on April 3 to stay with my fiancé and go to the embassy so we can do the K1 interview together. Ukraine has banned incoming travel into the country until March 3. If CNN continues to spread the perception that the US is a mess and Corona is rampant here, Ukraine May lift the ban for some countries, but add the US to previously banned countries (like Italy).  Also, the state department is concerned with public perception. The embassy has stopped scheduling visa interviews in Ukraine. As long as the media continues this misleading narrative, the embassy is likely to continue to be closed to visa interviews.

Our window to make a K1 interview closes on May 25. If something goes wrong and we are unable to get an extension (there are so many uncertainties about everything  right now), I will have to start the K1  process over.  If I have to apply again, there is a higher likelihood my petition will be rejected.  I applied under the old petition rules and may not be so fortunate under the new rules.

So, for me, everything with the media, politics, Trump, etc., is relevant to my Visa Journey as well as the topic “All things Corona virus”

A discussion of socialism in relation to the failure of the USSR is not related or relevant to Coronavirus. You can discuss anything you want on this thread. I'm not your mom, and I'm not a moderator. I just said I am not going to discuss it.

The big difference between the US and other countries is our media is actually trying to cause mass panic.  If everything seems unstable and the economy is in the tank, they are in a better position to try and unseat the current administration.

Here are all the top 7 CNN headlines from yesterday. You can see their priorities. Is this what’s important for the American people to know?

Bingo. When the media think they're onto something in respect to anti-Trump momentum, they pile it on, publishing articles like mad bashing Trump, including the hilarious "It's Over" article from the Atlantic. It would be a shame if people saw right through this like 2016, wouldn't it? :pop:

Also, on the discussion of socialism, you'll notice, efforts are being made to try and liken the CDC to a national healthcare system, and as a premise for pushing for a federal universal healthcare system. Just one example. So to say that socialism has nothing to do with this is a tactic employed merely to stifle opposing discussion and keep the discussion related to this going in one direction.

Today I was made aware of some rumblings going on within the UK government. What they are prepared to do, and what they will likely do within a few days to a few weeks is probably on a new level of crazy. It was some very difficult things to hear, and I was near tears in the soon to be abandonment of the elderly population in the expense of the 'greater good'. I have never seen my husband be this worried in all the years I've known him and we are powerless to help his family.

We went on a little quest to try and find some meat for my little dog that eats homecooked, and store after store for miles and through two states, we could find none. Freezer cases were empty, shelves of TP, water, soda, juice, eggs, and even bread... all gone. Basic pharmacy supplies were not much better. We found a few items at the club store, but stock was bare bones. I have lived through hurricanes, blizzards, and floods... never seen anything like this in my life.

At an ATM line we saw people in a queue each standing an unnatural distance from each other waiting. Whenever someone approached the bank door, those in the line would run away... back to their cars. Some stared at the ATM as if they were too scared to touch the buttons. Parents screamed at their kids to not touch anything... the little ones just don't understand what's wrong.

Throughout the day I tried to keep upbeat for my husband, but this day has drained me. /endrant 😒

I never realized what a face toucher I am until all of this. Any tips on reducing touching your face?

There is not much you can do. Touching your face is a built-in evolutionary mechanism. People touch their faces several time a minute. It’s natures way of having you build your immune system.  This is why they tell you to wash your hands very often. Notice, they never suggest that people stop touching their face?  Because it’s virtually impossible to do. Keep your hands clean, so when you touch your face, you won’t cause self harm.

It’s funny people would want to start using cash. Money is full of germs.  If you use apple or google pay, or a contactless credit card, you don’t have to touch anything. Last time I checked, there is no logical link between Corona and the nation’s electronic financial systems. There is no more reason to stockpile cash than there was a month ago.  We are creating problems on top of problems. I have a feeling that American society is going to be the worst hit by this virus. Even if we have fewer than 100 deaths, we will completely screw up our country. I won’t be surprised if riots and looting are next (knock on wood)

I keep seeing advice to avoid touching your face, though I take all your points about good hygiene. I wash my hands frequently and carry sanitizer for use when I can't get to soap and water. I am trying to be mindful of when I do it, though, to try to reduce its frequency.

I'm talking more about rubbing my eyes, but thanks for the encouragement. :P

When I worked as a butler, sometimes I had to wear white gloves. Gloves are good because they make you aware of your hands and you notice every time you touch your face because it feels strange when you do. Any type of glove will do.

They have a thing for toddlers that you put on their fingers. IIRC, it's harmless but tastes and smells rally bad. Supposedly teaches them to keep fingers out of orifices. I almost bought it years ago when my son wouldn't stop sucking his thumb, but then he abruptly stopped. You could give it a try if you really wanted to.

I don’t think she said she has a problem sucking her thumb 😂

It's not quite that bad, and I don't think I'm more of a toucher than most people. I'm just working to reduce the opportunities for infection any way I can. I will keep it in mind though so thank you! :)

Alex's mum is not well -- he managed to speak with her this afternoon. She insists it's probably only a cold, because her cough isn't dry and her fever is pretty low grade. She's only mid-50s so her risk profile is lower than, say, my parents', who are a decade older. Her boyfriend is keeping a close eye on her symptoms. Alex is encouraging her to get tested if she can. His sister was supposed to be flying into LA next week but that's obviously not happening now. She sent him this article earlier which made us both more than a little terrified for everyone over there:

The UK Government is said to be planning to tell pensioners to quarantine themselves at home for FOUR MONTHS as part of efforts to protect them from the coronavirus.

According to ITV, the over-70s will be instructed by the government to stay in strict isolation at home or in their care home as part of a 'wartime-style' mobilisation effort that is expected to be enforced within the next 20 days.

And they're shutting the pubs!
