I certainly do not have the scientific background but my gut feel coincides with his statement. Makes sense to me.

Has Sweden’s strategy really failed?  According to WO, they appear to be at least at, or slightly beyond the peak, and they did not implode their economy.

I am inclined to agree with you, from an actuarial perspective we will only really know for certain when this has run its course, and the data has been examined and checked and rechecked.

We have talked about the difference between trend and sheer numbers before. We have also compared Sweden to other Scandinavian countries which took harsher measures. There's no doubt that while their trend is similar, their peak (in deaths and confirmed cases) appears to be much higher, and their way down much slower(as in their daily increase is still bigger than theirs, although lower than at their peak).

 

Also, almost anything this Swedish Epidemiologist  talks about it stuff we already know and covered in this forum, really nothing new that I saw in there.

Here is an example from today:

 

Sweden - 14,777 cases, increase of 392 from yesterday, which is 2.7%, which is actually the best they've fared so far. I've been watching them daily and they were usually around 10% over the last couple of weeks, even when others were way lower.

 

Norway - 7,122 cases, increase of 44 from yesterday, which is 0.6% increase(when Sweden was closer to 10%, Norway still wasn't much higher than this).

 

Denmark - 7,515 cases, increase of 131 cases, which is 1.7%. Again, They've been hovering around this for a while now, long before Sweden.

 

Finland - 3,868 cases, increase of 85, or 2.2%. While this is the closest to Sweden's in this one day snapshot, Finland's actually been doing better than all 3(as evident by their lower number of cases) overall.

 

Sweden's cases per 1 mil = 1,463. Denmark 1,297. Norway 1,314. Finland 698.

 

Deaths: Sweden - 1,580 or 156 per 1 mil. Denmark - 364, or 63. Norway - 171 or 32. 98 or 18.

 

Severe/Critical(potential future deaths): Sweden: 521, Denmark: 84, Norway: 58, Finland: 67.

 

Also, on top of that, lets not forget what was already mentioned in the thread about the Israeli professor regarding cultural differences - Swedes are by and large more disciplined than most populations. What works, or even semi works - depending on who you ask - for them will not work the same everywhere else.

Yes, I believe Dr. Giesecke mentioned that we need to learn more and revisit everything in a year or so.

Nope, nothing really new, just the Swedish version of Dr. Fauci mentioning an alternative strategy.  In reality, there is no way to tell which one is best right now or probably ever, and you cannot just confine a comparison to three other countries until you factor in the effects of a self imposed recession/depression on their economies.
