My wife ordered some on Amazon a month ago and they just got here Tuesday. She paid $35 for 8, and they came from China. They say N95, but who knows. She really wanted them though, mostly for work, since they are down to surgical masks. She left 2 at home.

We ordered from amazon same timeframe were informed that supplies were no longer available to individuals and the order was cancelled

I ordered 4 cloth reusable/washable masks with filters you can put in on ebay for 20 dollars (10 for a pack of 2). Ebay seems to have a bigger selection than Amazon for cloth masks. Filter by "US only" to avoid shipping delays from China/overseas. I've seen a bunch of handmade cloth masks for sale on ebay as well. I put it on when I go into stores/stand in lines but it's not required here. I'm just doing it out of caution.

I heard US sellers are not allowed to sell to individuals. I asked my wife and she said they are KN95, the Chinese version. They are still available on Amazon but the sellers are all in China. She showed me the link she ordered from, and she was also a little miffed that they are now selling 10 for $26.60. I told her demand is probably down now. It says arrival date May-11 to June-02, so I'm not sure it's really worth ordering now.

They don't look like the N95's I'm familiar with from work though, and I know there have been fake ones out there.

This is why I won't order the only available hand-sanitizer, which is made in/shipped from China.

Overbuying and subsequent housecleaning does have its benefits... I found an extra unopened pump-bottle (from 2015, by the stamped date), and Mrs. T-B. found a couple of others.  It would be nice to have a couple of extras, but these should hold us for a while.

I've used isopropyl alcohol from 2009 this year, and it didn't seem to have decomposed/degenerated (whatever the term).  I presume that sanitizer wouldn't degrade much, either, if it was stored unopened in a dry/dark/unhot area.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

2-propanol (isopropanol) will not decompose.  You can always substitute some Barcardi 151 if necessary.

You do not need to have N95 masks in LA County to shop in stores. You DO need to have a facial covering -- even a bandanna is fine. Do you not have access to even a bandanna? Also, there are people selling masks on the side of the road -- many of the people who used to sell flowers are now selling masks for $3-5. I just came back from getting lunch and many of the homeless people I saw have face coverings now!

And I am sorry, it is no different from "no shirt, no shoes, no service" -- if a store owner will only admit people wearing ballgowns and tuxedos, that's his or her prerogative. It's far easier to get a hold of a scarf or a bandanna quickly for most people than a ballgown. (I on the other hand still have a few ballgowns in storage at my parents' house so I would be fine. :P)

I'll be the first customer in line at the "ballgowns and tuxedos required" store. My husband and I love any excuses to dress up. :D

Business should be able to require want they want. If you dont like it vote with your dollars.

Smoking is a great example.  I would not eat at a  restaurant that allowed smoking. However its not the govts place.

You're missing the point.  If a STORE makes this policy for all its customers, fine.

The government doesn't have the right to tell.us how to dress to shop and eat.  Especially when the gesture is pointless.

I agree 100%, especially when the government has proven it doesn’t know what it is doing. A couple weeks ago, they said it was pointless to wear a mask. Now you are a bad, stupid person if you don’t wear a mask. Next week, we will have to wear gloves and foil hats to protect ourselves.

It scares me how the constitution is being violated and governors and mayors are inventing laws out of thin air. The governor of New Jersey admitted he’d didn’t even consider the bill of rights when he decided to start arresting people for doing things like going for a walk in the park.

You and I disagree there. As a minarchist, I totally distinguish governments role of protecting your safety and well-being, from pretty much anything else they try to do these days. Smoking falls under the first category. I'm all for government making smokers life as hard as possible.

It's not about telling you how to dress, really. It's about telling you: there is a public health emergency and we need you to take some commonsense precautions to prevent others from getting ill.

It is NOT unconstitutional for states and cities and counties to do these things! Mayors, governors and local executive have very, very broad powers when public health and safety are involved. These are the police powers, the ones that are reserved to the states.

The "gesture" isn't pointless. It is there to protect others. It is a health and safety issue. I might be asymptomatic for all I know (I tend to suspect I had the virus at the end of last year/beginning of this one though). I wear a mask not just because it's a requirement if I need to go to the supermarket, but because it is the right thing to do. I have one with a HEPA filter. It is sufficient for my limited needs -- go into the store, practice social distancing, get things I need and get the eff out. Go home and wash my hands. Is this perfect? NO. But perfect is the enemy of good right now. It is better than nothing.

Yes, several weeks ago we were told masks weren't of much use. But you know what? Situations evolve, knowledge evolves, understanding evolves. We are dealing with a novel virus, and things change as we learn more. Please share a source for your story that the New Jersey governor had someone arrested for going for a walk in the park. I cannot find such a story. I see stories for people congregating in large numbers or spitting on people or similar. Not randos just going for a walk.

I pay attention to scientists and what they advise in their areas of expertise that relate to this virus. I don't pay attention to cable news hosts or radio shows or people whose expertise is somewhere other than infectious diseases or epidemiology. These voices can be interesting or provocative (for good or bad) or give a gloss that catches my attention, but it's a sideshow. I listen to people whose job this is.
