And while we are at it, seems flattening the curve doesn't mean stopping the virus.  It means not overloading the healthcare system all at once.  A huge number of people are still going to get the virus.

That's right. Flattening the curve doesn't stop the virus, if anyone thinks that they have the wrong impression. It's to slow it to a point where nothing is overwhelmed, hopefully other lives can be saved that would have been lost due to not being able to get care, and wait it out until there's a vaccine or treatment. The current 60k death estimate is if we continue doing that, and does not account for a second wave. The fact that we're seeing 're-activated infections' and 'low antibodies/immunity' in research from SK means we'll likely be dealing with this a very long time.

Don't know. That's up to the officials to decide how fast or slow we die.

   If it behaves like other human Coronaviruses, reinfection will be possible in many people after time has passed. They have done some studies with the common strains and found immunity starts decreasing in most people, but the time that takes is variable. The trend is that antibody levels will decrease over time, but the immune system tends to jump start more quickly in most people with subsequent re exposure, so people usually recover more quickly and have milder symptoms unless there are other issues going on at the time. 

 

   Of course they don't really know if the virus that causes Covid-19 causes a similar response to other strains, and they are unlikely to be doing any studies any time soon. The other strains remain in circulation because enough people are susceptible at any given time to allow the spread to keep going. It's possible that Covid-19 could end up that way as well.

Wondering what models our elected officials are using to make those decisions.  I know the MI governor does not like the UW model.  Maybe she is still using the old UK model.

Governors have broad powers, to some degree perhaps greater than the feds, especially during emergencies. Perhaps it's because no one ever pays attention to the powers they have until there is an emergency to this degree (which there rarely is). If there is a question about it perhaps it may be time to change state constitutions. But good luck with that.

    I don't think it's blame, just observation. My own observation, the biggest groups I see out and about not observing social distancing are kids. They are all over the park today.
