The tally continues to climb, and we lost another patient today. A call has gone out from hospitals needing masks and face shields. Thankfully found some food today for the dog, so he'll be happy for a little while at least. With orders from the governor, all the department heads got together and my husband must now work from home completely instead of staggering days. He anticipates a fiasco with teachers unable to cope with technology.

I'm sure they are all educated enough to realize that coping with technology trumps a dirt nap, every day of the year...

I am involved with this Data science group that is looking for ideas for helpful apps/analysis related to the Corona virus.

One guy wants help proving his theory that the Russians released the virus in China, knowing it would make its way to the US and suppress votes for Biden in the democratic primary in an effort to secure the nomination for Bernie Sanders.

If you are interested, please send me a private message, along with a picture of your tin foil hat.

Yes, that is one of the two I use daily.  The other is:  https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

They vary a bit, but used together, they seem to paint as accurate a picture as anyone can given the fluidity.

This video mentions your post, as well as several more.  Rather long watch, but what else ya gonna do in self-quarantine?  Give it a watch.  Definitely interesting.

You would think..... but lol, based on the crazy calls this morning, both teachers and students are passive-aggressively thinking that they rule the world.

Some things I spotted this morning:

  • Singapore is shutting back down because there is a start of a second wave.
  • Reports out of Wuhan is also showing a second wave.
  • CDC found virus still living on surfaces 17 days later.
  • Dead people in Texas hospital were not tested coming in and still haven't been tested after they died. Bodies piling up and not being added to the tally.
  • WSJ sources say airlines are preparing to shut domestic, because the FAA is overrun with infections.

And.. people showing up to the hospital with unrelated COVID19 symptoms being found to be advanced stage of infection and they never even knew it. They had no fever and no breathing problems but they are finding the tell-tale signals in their lungs during unrelated scans.

On a personal note, someone I know has been waiting for two weeks for their results until they were finally told it was 'inconclusive' and they need a repeat. And a dear friend that worked in a building (but not the same office or vicinity) as a known case is showing signs of illness and cannot find any assistance in the UK system. He can't find any advice or anyone to test him. He cares for an elderly parent and is worried of passing on infection and experiencing threats of losing his job...

Governments have a brutal message to deliver: The coronavirus lockdown cannot go on too long or the consequences of economic meltdown could be even more deadly than the disease.

As countries across the world announce lockdowns and multibillion-euro bailouts, they know these can only offer short-term fixes. National leaders have one eye squarely on the calendar and are trying to calculate when they are going to have to tell people to get back to work, even if that will reignite infections and high death tolls.

It is French President Emmanuel Macron who has most starkly expressed the challenges of balancing measures like self-isolation and social distancing against the imperative to keep the economy running.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

My take on this stark reality .. then lets use this limited window of time to hit the community spread hard and fast .decrease  social contact as much as possible by as many as possible even if it adds more discomfort and personal challenges .. test as many as possible, isolate all positives for 14 days, retest .... use the limited time as fully as possible .. then begin to swing the pendulum of responses towards longer term economic recovery while maintaining as much of the actions consistent with minimising infections as possible. Don’t get everyone to go back to “ normal” all at once.
