For transgender and gender non-conforming people, gender-affirming surgeries are life-altering procedures, which, for many, can greatly reduce gender dysphoria and improve their quality of life. But in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, trans communities on Reddit and Twitter are being flooded with reports of postponed and canceled surgeries in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Thailand, and elsewhere, leading to enormous stress and disappointment on top of a global health crisis.

This underscores a common experience amongst trans people seeking medical care or surgery: Research has suggested that gender-affirming surgery, in particular, has a notable and long-term impact on mental health, but far too often, trans people already wait far longer than is safe or healthy for this care. Further delays can be dangerous and even life-threatening.

I have my first grocery delivery scheduled tomorrow. Just a trial run, but I wanted to see how they do. I envision getting rotten fruit or eggs that are almost expired or something, but if they do good, I'll probably go to having all delivery for the time being.

How do you know if an egg is "almost expired"?

The sad reaction is the closest we have to something for me to express how painful that was.

Well, technically you can put an egg in water and see what it does.  If it floats at all, it's "older".  And if boiled, will typically be hard to peel.  Still doesn't mean the egg is bad.

I used to crack every egg into a bowl, one at a time, as the occurence of a bad egg wasn't out of the ordinary (and ruining a batch of whatever sucked if you dumped that rotten egg into the.cake).  Haven't had that happen in more years than I can remember.

Especially since it didn't really originate in Spain. I'm thinking they'll rename it at some point.

Well Spain reported it, not part of WW1 censorship, and the King got it so that seems where the name came from. More likely France arising out of WW1.

There is no doubt I think where this originated.

Modern research also points to Kansas. I'm not sure if they will ever be sure where it did start, but they are sure it wasn't Spain.

As far as I'm aware it started on a farm in Kansas, spread to a military base, and our boys took it overseas from there. After my great grandfather lost his father, siblings, and his stillborn daughter to the disease, (based on records it looks like perhaps great grandmother fell sick at the time), he too succumbed. Wasn't a place on earth that pandemic didn't reach.

Nope, Kansas.

I am not sure there is a certain origination, maybe Kansas was where it spread from in the US? The issues around trench warfare, packed field hospitals, sick troops, gas attacks etc seem a much more likely breeding ground.
