I know when the wife and I got the second dose of the shingles vaccine, it felt like we had the Vid the next day, but luckily it only lasted 12-24 hrs.  Overall, I am pro-vaccine, we already got our flu shots, etc., but I also want proper due diligence to be completed which is why I don’t panic when these stories come out about pauses in the trials which really isn’t a pause, but rather an investigation into the response data, as far as I know, those participating in the trials have already received their doses, but I could be wrong.

Most of what we feel when we are sick with a virus is due to our immune system responding. So if people feel like they got a little sick after a vaccination, that's probably a good thing. It means your immune system was hard at work and should hopefully be  ready if you get exposed to the actual virus. I'm not really worried about that.

Viruses can trigger a lot of other things with the immune system, and we know there is a lot of inflammatory collateral damage with Covid in particular, and possibly some long term sequelae that we don't know the full extent of. Since a vaccine often uses viral antigen and/or killed virus, it's important to make sure the vaccine doesn't trigger any of those things. I'm concerned when I hear anything pausing a trial, but it does happen. Sometimes people get sick with something else or have an undiagnosed preexisting condition flare up. Sometimes though, the vaccine may have triggered something.

Eli Lily's antibody drug trial was also paused today due to some adverse event. This drug is supposedly similar to Regeneron.

I saw that just now too. It is a concern, but it does happen often with vaccine trials. The world is just not usually paying such close attention to them.

Ummmm, a lot of those Lakers fans aren't exactly woke. And there were a ton of arrests the other night for criminal mischief, assault, etc.

But were they social distancing, and did they set any fires?

Yes, unfortunately they did set fires. And over 75 people were arrested for various offenses. It was not a great evening for those of us 15 miles away and not even basketball fans -- nobody out marching in the streets or anything, but fireworks going off, probably down at the beach, setting off car alarms and dogs for a good hour or so on and off. Someone set off what sounded like dynamite outside our building but was a commercial firework (thanks guys).

At the same time, it wasn't so very different from any number of championship celebrations in all sorts of places in the past I've seen written about. That's not to excuse it -- I will make that very clear. It wasn't singular, is what I'm trying to say, except for the conditions it happened in. Also, I've seen pictures and there are a LOT of people celebrating in their cars as they drove near the Staples Center, so there is that element of social distancing.

Personally I would never go to any mass event right now. It isn't worth getting sick or getting other people sick. I postponed my own medium-sized wedding indefinitely and am jumping through a bunch of hoops to have a very small celebration that is very safe and includes most of the people that we want to be there the most. His mum can't come, which hurts. A lot. But to get to a point where we can have the celebration we want we are all making sacrifices with as much grace as we can muster. I get the feeling of wanting to blow off steam after 7 months of this, but let's be real: most people suck at self-denial. I struggle with it too but I do my best to think of myself as a member of an interknit society, not an island in the middle of an ocean.

You can always stream it for his mom.  When we got married my wife’s family could not attend mostly due to the fact that getting US B2 Visas in Russia is very difficult for someone with less than strong ties, so we streamed it for them having the ceremony at a time convenient for all.

Yes! We have a link we are setting up and distributing ONLY to family because we don't want to pick and choose friends right now. We're having the ceremony at noon to reflect the time difference and the fact that a 7-year-old probably shouldn't be up too late. BUT that means in order for his daughter to watch, he is giving the link to his ex, who is friends with many of our mutual friends. I assume the link is going to be passed around. 🙄 But I now understand the concept of the waiting room on Zoom (duh).

VJ Family?
