Heck, the Big Ten reversed course on their planned football schedule.  I often listen to WSB, and it seems the numbers are dropping fairly rapidly at UGA and no, I don't have sources, I was listening to their hourly newscast.

COVID-19 emails from Nashville mayor's office show disturbing revelation

ASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The coronavirus cases on lower Broadway may have been so low that the mayor’s office and the Metro Health Department decided to keep it secret.

Emails between the mayor’s senior advisor and the health department reveal only a partial picture. But what they reveal is disturbing.

 

The discussion involves the low number of coronavirus cases emerging from bars and restaurants and how to handle that.

 

And most disturbingly, how to keep it from the public.

On June 30th, contact tracing was given a small view of coronavirus clusters. Construction and nursing homes were found to be causing problems with more than a thousand cases traced to each category, but bars and restaurants reported just 22 cases.

 

Leslie Waller from the health department asks, “This isn’t going to be publicly released, right? Just info for Mayor’s Office?"

“Correct, not for public consumption,” writes senior advisor Benjamin Eagles.

There was a debunk of this today done by local reporters and those that took the time to actually read and not edit out the original article. The original reporter is not happy about his work being used this way. This station is not being exactly honest in their reporting.

 

The same thing, I might add happened to a small time but solidly local investigative B'more city paper that routinely reports on corruption. A fox news station ran with the piece, acted like it was their own and gave no credit, heavily edited it and spun it to say something it did not. They were not too happy.

I don't offhand but there were a lot of local upset reporters commenting about all the work they put into this story and that snippets of it were being used to grasp for things that weren't concluded. And to be fair they say they did intend to ask hard questions and have a  critical eye about any potential to mislead the public or be less transparent. You'd have to click through into the accounts and read their threads. Nate is one of the persons that worked on this and they do link back and through why they believe the conclusions reached by Fox are wildly misleading.

I couldn't find any debunking, just some swapping around of wordsmiths to try and minimize the fallout.

 

Two things that seems to have remained constant throughout the multiple links I browsed are that the number of cases in bars was very low, and that information was kept from the public.

Sounds to me like the city council members, who obviously work downtown, were doing anything to stop the slow crawl of the disease as it moved downtown, most likely because people were still going to work.
