Well, my 25-year-old nephew is self-isolating for the next fortnight in an abundance of caution. He (and the bulk of my nuclear family, except my parents) live in London. My nephew was at a bat mitzvah over the weekend with his girlfriend and his girlfriend's mother. As it turns out, the mother was exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19 and she is now self-monitoring and self-isolating. Given how many people were in attendance at the event and that apparently the mother is something of a hugger, no one is taking any chances. Yes, this is at two removes but I am telling you, those two removes don't make me any less worried.

My nephew is a healthy young man, but his auntie is 5,000 miles away and scared. He can't even go home to his parents as my brother is immunosuppressed and my sister-in-law is at work on Jersey and unsure if she should return to London. Right now, my nephew feels fine but he is aware he could be asymptomatic. I am very, very proud of him for taking extra steps to ensure his community's safety. No one should feel terribly sad for him though -- his girlfriend is the daughter of a Russian oligarch and they're camping out together in her very plush pied-a-terre for the time being. I'm sure between the champagne and the foie gras he'll find time to check in with me. Or not.

I should be more concerned that my archaeologist brother nearly got blown up by unexploded ordnance twice in the past month on digs, I'm sure. But these are very strange times indeed. Just checking in with you all and to see if everyone is still bickering as always. In my studies of eschatology, such as they are, I have come across a warning that if everyone in CEHST (RIP P&R) starts agreeing with each other, it will be a true mark of the end times. Glad to see the world's end has been postponed for a few more weeks through your efforts to keep at daggers drawn, keep up the good work.

We are social creatures. We can't help noticing what other people are doing, and it becomes very hard to ignore what other people are doing, even when we know it doesn't seem right.

I actually think the "hoarding" part is mostly over. Retailers are enforcing that part. Now I think it's more that people who have enough TP for 2 weeks are wondering if the shelves will be stocked in 3 weeks so they buy a little more. Psychologically, we are also not used to seeing empty shelves like that.

Just as quickly, we could be seeing TP on sale in a month, as retailers have too much inventory and shelves are full, and no one needs to buy any for 6 months.

Yup the supply chain will be overloaded with TP soon.

I was in Sams this morning to get my wifes rice. They had Sams brand TP and paper towels.  They also had a pallet or two of that big roll commercial TP. They had employees making sure everyone only got one.

I didnt get any, cause I like quilted northern.

People were running to grab it.

I notice some no name brand today TP. We don't need any yet. Part of me wanted to get a small one, but more I want to see people quit panicking over it so I just grabbed paper towels, which there was still quite a bit left. They said they fill the shelves every morning, but people are still buying it out by the end of the day. The only other thing couldn't get today was eggs.

The biggest change for me is that I will do all the shopping, so I have to get lists from my wife for everything she needs. We thought no reason we both should be out there risking something, and I'm more likely to get it from work anyway.

Right now I don't know if the store is out of sprouted bread, or if that's just something my wife made up.

I just got an email from Outback (the restaurant) that they will do free delivery for take out orders until April 30th. We are about 5 miles away. I think we'll see more businesses get creative with delivery service and/or other options so they can stay operating and keep people at home.

For years, we've ordered ours wholesale from the janitorial supply companies et al.

We get a 96-roll box of very nice-quality stuff for under $40, sometimes under $35*.

Box arrives at the door, obviating the need to lug it from Costco or elsewhere.

We're not quite halfway into the current box.

My wife wanted me to get sprouted bread, free range omega 3 eggs, and 1% organic milk.

I managed to shorten that to bread, eggs and milk. Even, then I was only able to get 2 out of the 3.
