Thankfully we don't need to rely on selective doomsday scenarios to make informed choices, schools have been reopened for a while now in many places around the world and overall have netted us valuable information that points overwhelmingly to reopening:

My oldest child is in 4th grade, thus, we're less worried about this problem then if she was, say, in high school. We already are going to have her under a similar flu season (which is right around the corner anyways) routine  we had her on when her first brother was born, particularly because her youngest brother is days old, and won't even be a month old by the time she goes back to school. The idea is to protect the vulnerable, not place kids in a bubble.

 

The dumbest thing to do is inflict misery on children for the perceived marginal gain in health when that doesn't even consider the health implications of isolation, which easily results in an overwhelming health loss. Any consideration that doesn't consider the health implications of isolation is likely contrived and looks more and more like abuse.
