New York Times Authors Deceptively Edit Trump’s Advice to Governors on Medical Ventilators

At least eight New York Times authors shared a deceptively edited quote Monday from President Donald Trump’s recent call with state governors, creating the false impression that the president is denying federal support for ventilators that are needed in hospitals treating coronavirus patients.

In his message, the president recommended that states procure respirators and ventilators because it would be faster — but added that the federal government “will be backing you.”

The Times journalists omitted the bulk of the president’s statement as they shared the story on social media. The misleading, partial quote was also boosted by a CNN correspondent and became the lead headline at the left-wing Huffington Post.

Despite growing online backlash to this misinformation, the journalists have yet to delete or retract their comments.

The eight journalists tweeted a link to a Times article published Monday that contains President Trump’s full statement to state governors in which the president recommended that they shouldn’t wait for the federal government to fill the growing demand for respirators needed to treat people with coronavirus.

“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves,” President Trump told the governors during the Monday conference call. “We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point of sales, much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself.”

But in the body of their posts, the Times journalists left out most of what the president said.

Went to the store this morning. I found two packages of chicken left. There was nothing else. The guy says some people are camping outside the store at night and charge right in as soon as they open. They aren't limiting how much meat to buy either, which is really causing the hoarding... they can't keep up.

Now they are taking all the dairy and baby formula.

You just re-posted a Facebook post asserting this thing is either not real, or was created or blown out of proportion by Democrats for political purposes. You have another thread from some idiotic website pretending they have proof this is a bioweapon.

I am a little concerned when I point out your affinity for posting conspiracy theories, and you seem to think that refers to the posts that were actually reality.

Emphasis on solid fundamentals (more local investment, employment, etc.) over the insecurity of fiat, paper wealth, and speculative markets. In actual times of prosperity, the population at large is doing well, which is whats happening more under Trump. Those fundamentals are going to drive the recovery following this momentary hysteria.

Naturally, the left see this disaster as some kind of inroad to getting their way, whether it be hurting Trump (re:2020 election), or attaining a national universal healthcare system, but neither result.

We are social creatures. We can't help noticing what other people are doing, and it becomes very hard to ignore what other people are doing, even when we know it doesn't seem right.

I actually think the "hoarding" part is mostly over. Retailers are enforcing that part. Now I think it's more that people who have enough TP for 2 weeks are wondering if the shelves will be stocked in 3 weeks so they buy a little more. Psychologically, we are also not used to seeing empty shelves like that.

Just as quickly, we could be seeing TP on sale in a month, as retailers have too much inventory and shelves are full, and no one needs to buy any for 6 months.

What I really liked in Canada is the TP suppliers said we're not changing our supply, people will get the product the same time and amount as usual. They understand hysteria causes chaos all along the chain and the resulting bullwhip would benefit no one. Risk mitigation is an invaluable tool during market irrationality.

Your quote was of my post talking about how this could be the new norm, the lack of stuff on shelves, if the socialists get into power.

I am a little concerned about your inability to distinguish between a conspiracy theory post and what is actually happening.

It's a tough one, because if they up the supply, pay workers overtime and increase price,  they also understand that the demand is artificial and they are likely going to end up with excess stock that won't sell, even at lower prices down the road. Many companies that produce more now are risking losing money in the long run if they get stuck with product sitting on the shelf and/or expiring. All manufacturers know there is no real shortage.

Your reply about Sanders getting elected made no sense in relation to any post of mine that you responded too. Apologies if it looked like you were getting your conspiracy theories mixed up, but you are the one who has chosen to go off on that angle multiple times.

We could go back over our posts from the last several days and have a critical look at the concept of reality. Given what I am seeing the last few days, I don't think I will have the time, nor do I think it will be necessary. You will catch up.

I'm all caught up, thanks.  And I still love you man!

I'm certain you understood the common covalent bonds between Sanders, socialism, and empty shelves.  If I am mistaken, feel free to consult your wife. I'm sure she has more examples to talk about than I could ever find.

On a positive note, my investments lost another $9500 overnight.  It will soon be time to buy heavily.

Wouldn't you rather discuss your post from two days ago that no one actually knows anyone who has the virus? Or should we go back to the one about how this is an escaped bioweapon? Or the one from yesterday that this is just a plot by the Democrats to win the election. Now you seem to think the USA is going to turn into Soviet Russia. There is a common denominator with some your posts that I just can't get into.

Anyway, I also enjoy our discussions, which is why I'm still responding when there is no real reason to. Let's just try to keep it real?

Whichever you prefer.  Still, today, I know no one who has it, thankfully.  Not looking forward to the day when that is no longer true.

Here's another conspiracy theory for ya:

The Spokeswoman for the CDC just said that mortality rates outside of Wuhan have settled at 0.7%.

That’s 0.7% without any warning. Without any advisories. And, without reliable data.

That data will plummet as it becomes more clear and as more people quarantine themselves.

Great news!!
