Wonder why they didn't say what they meant?  Or did they, then decided to backpedal?  Hmmmm....

Or they were just tired of people using their work as some 'proof' of something they did not intend. I can't speak to the poor wording some people use when they put together papers. Maybe essay writing isn't their strong suit.

Reckon this might account for the spike in positive cases?

How does that account for the spike in hospitalizations, ICU admissions and deaths.

I can get myself to do it, but... it is supposedly more efficent.  https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/554936/why-jerk-drivers-who-merge-last-minute-are-actually-more-efficient

The thing is, in reality, the vast majority of people are dishonest, vehement cheats and rule breakers who believe everyone else is more dishonest/immoral than they are:

Worth the read.

My favorites are here, and somewhat alluding to the shopping cart theory:

Quote

The more abstracted from the cheating we are, the more we cheat. This was an interesting one–it turns out the less “connected” we feel to our dishonesty, the more we’re willing to do it. This ranges from being more willing to cheat to earn tokens exchangeable for real money than to earn actual money, to being more willing to “tap” a golf ball to improve its lie than actually pick it up and move it with our hands.

Quote

Unsurprisingly, cheating has a social contagion aspect. If we see someone who we identify with and whose group we feel we belong to cheating, it makes us (much) more likely to cheat. This has wide-ranging social implications.
