Shutting things down could've also impacted testing and reporting. More deaths will happen as substantially more cases arise. That's not abnormal. What's abnormal is wrecking vast swaths of lives for those small percent of people, when one could be targeting those small percentage of people (as they are demonstrated to mostly be easily segmented) to make better/healthier choices for themselves, and even get help. The idea that we can shield an entire populace off for long periods of time from a disease and do so in a way that doesn't cripple the entire nation was mythological.

Medical evidence long pointed to what I said. There's a clear connection between hypertension and oxygen saturation, which really wasn't even needed in studies just understanding how breathing works and what hypertension is. You can either accept what the doctors state and the medical evidence shows, not to mention basic biology, or don't.

If a fat person with the aforementioned problems doesn't want to wear a mask, because they can't wear one for long, they shouldn't need to, and if someone tries to force them to wear one, should be held responsible for the results. Nonetheless, that individual is still responsible for protecting themselves and not being a vector of these diseases if they are knowingly infected. Rationality over paranoia and compliance authoritarianism.

well yes lowered 02 sats aggravate hypertension, you are auguring something that none has disputed.

The article quoting medical professionals said studies prove masks do not lower 02 sats in healthy people.

I am a medical doctor and this is just wrong.

Certain conditions that lead to low oxygen saturation (for example, obstructive sleep apnea) can result in hypertension. Hypertension (excluding pulmonary hypertension which is a separate condition) does not result in hypoxia. If A leads to C, this does not always mean that C leads to A. Association does not mean causation.

Doctor, you have some reading problems, or rather, I suspect, being deliberately misleading, which may be far worse.

Obesity->apnea->saturation.

We're talking about the lungs, telling me to exclude the very hypertension relevant to this is just comical. Nothing I said there is "wrong", you never even refuted anything I said. In fact, you helped reinforce it.

We are back on lockdown. :( Alex's office was officially closed, but they were letting people who wanted to work in the office come in if they felt they needed to, using social distancing, lots of hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, not congregating in common areas. He is actually there today because of construction work on our block. This is the email he just forwarded to me from his COVID-19 office coordinator:

Hey team:

Hope everyone is staying well. Bad news -- LA County, along with 29 other counties in the state, is as of today going back to essentially shutdown status. More info here: https://covid19.ca.gov/roadmap-counties/

The takeaway for us is that as a non-essential business, the office has to remain closed. Here's the list of what is now closed:

Effective July 13, 2020, ALL counties must close indoor operations in these sectors:

  • Dine-in restaurants
  • Wineries and tasting rooms
  • Movie theaters
  • Family entertainment centers (for example: bowling alleys, miniature golf, batting cages and arcades)
  • Zoos and museums
  • Cardrooms
  • Additionally, bars, brewpubs, breweries, and pubs must close all operations both indoor and outdoor statewide.

Counties that have remained on the County Monitoring List for 3 consecutive days will be required to shut down the following industries or activities unless they can be modified to operate outside or by pick-up.

  • Fitness centers
  • Worship services
  • Protests
  • Offices for non-essential sectors
  • Personal care services, like nail salons, body waxing and tattoo parlors
  • Hair salons and barbershops
  • Malls

LA County is on the County Monitoring list. I know we feel what we do is "essential," but to the state it is not. Most of us have been staying home anyway, but please, DO NOT COME IN unless you must (i.e. collect something you left in the office). In the meantime, stay safe everyone. I know we're all doing our part.

So protests are now going to be banned, for those of you who were convinced that these wouldn't be stopped while churchgoing was banned. Many thanks to all the idiots who decided not wearing masks, hanging out in bars cheek by jowl, acting like life was back to normal, was more important than being careful and considerate of others.

Really civilized, and with such ample notice.  Have fun being a prisoner again.

And they can't ban protests, most of which take place outside anyway.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Police can disperse protests. They may start up again, but they can be dispersed. It will be interesting to see which groups comply and which don't. There was a big one this morning at the LAPD, pro-LAPD and some counter-protesters.

And I do not object to the notice. This is important to do, even if none of us want to do it. The faster it's done, the faster we're out of it.

Seems like shutdown #1 helped them, so their logic is, shutdown #2 will be even better.

You have NO idea what it is like here. It is not good, and the virus is spreading faster than can be controlled with the current level of openness. We need to do this -- our hospitalization and death rates are spiraling out of control. We were doing well until we started opening up -- the first stage was fine, but Newsom opened up too many places too quickly. We aren't Mono or Yolo County. We needed to stay partially closed longer. Now we're stuck with this.

Sorry -- this is very tough for me. It was a rough weekend personally.

it's about time.  i'm sure those helped spread the virus as much, if not more, than those in bars.

You don't know what it's like not having Jamba Juice with two immunity boosts, it's even better than a Starbucks Double Ristretto Venti Half-Soy Nonfat Decaf Organic Chocolate Brownie Iced Vanilla Double-Shot Gingerbread Frappuccino Extra Hot With Foam Whipped Cream Upside Down Double Blended. Just put me out of my misery.
