The hospital situation is becoming more and more concerning...numbers in Alabama aren't nearly as bad as GA, FL, etc but yet we have several hospitals that are struggling with being at capacity.

Sidenote: My husband and I had to be tested last week due to exposure to someone who tested positive. Luckily, we were able to get the rapid test and we tested negative.

Yeah I was wondering how a lot of the mainstream headlines were choosing to frame this article in such a misleading manner. Why would you give the non-HCQ group no steroids if the HCQ group got them? If it were me, it certainly looks like the dex might be the thing that was saving lives here..

MD still continues with a downward ICU trend, but still has a steady stream of new cases every day. Those that are going into the hospital very sick are under age 35. We'll see if this trend holds a few weeks after the most recent holiday. DE on the other hand hasn't been faring so well. Several states have put those residents under quarantine orders again. The beach people are nuts.

I kept my sister well away from everyone and quarantine for the allotted timeframe and she still shows no symptoms. Meanwhile the coworker has managed to infect at least 15 people - four of which are in the hospital and two are critical.

Testing is becoming a problem again with major labs so backlogged, there is in many cases no longer a rapid turnaround. I'm assuming that's due to the crush of new cases + the requirement for those having outpatient electives needing a test. Mom's oncologist wants her to have a procedure, and she is kicking up a fuss because Dad told her how horrible the test was.

Daycamps started at the college again. No one is happy about it and the directors think the higher-ups are crazy. The workers are only supposed to come in to support distance learning, but they're ordering them to handle support for this.. and that can be a pain because those kids are crazy as hell and intentionally hit the tech support buttons, rip cables out of walls, and break stuff.

It was a retrospective study, so they were just going back and gathering data from patients who were already treated. Really what it shows is that a group who was younger and got HCQ and dexamethasone had better outcomes than a group who was older and got neither medication. I'm not sure a study was really needed to reach that conclusion.

I'm also not sure how they can even attempt to isolate one of those factors from all the others. Especially when prospective studies are all tending to show the opposite (with HCQ).

Much like everything else Corona related,  very few are using facts its all about your political orientation.

If you support Trump HCQ is a proven life saver and anyone who says it isnt hates Trump enough to let people die.

If you hate Trump is hemlock and Trumps stupidity is going to kill people, because a man drank aquarium cleaner and died.

Truth is, their is some anecdotal  evidence it may have some effect and just as much thats says it worthless. Who knows there is so much politics in the way and to be honest probably not enough history.  It takes time. Look how much better we are at understanding and treating in just a few months.

But of course death rates are dropping becuse numbers are govt lies and irs a hoax for Bill Gates world domination.

Don't forgot the part where the couple who drank it (not HCQ, but chloroquine phosphate) hated Trump, and were devout democrat supporters (or at least the wife was?).  Pretty clever of her, actually, to blame it on Trump.

CDC saying now that coronavirus deaths barely qualify this as an epidemic, let alone a pandemic.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Are you sure about that? They called it a pandemic yesterday. It's hard to believe the CDC is not aware that number of deaths is not part of the criteria for labeling a disease epidemic or pandemic.

Here's one example of several discussing this that I found:

https://thefederalist.com/2020/07/06/cdc-after-10-week-decline-in-covid-19-deaths-it-may-soon-no-longer-be-an-epidemic/

The link to the CDC's website is at the end of the 5th paragraph.

If the logic in the article just above is wrong, more than one site is mistaken.

Literally says this on a website updated yesterday by the CDC:

This guidance is to address the general workflow safety concerns of laboratory personnel

during the COVID-19 pandemic.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/lab/lab-safety-practices.html

Took 15 seconds to find.

The link in the article to the CDC site says it's currently at epidemic threshold and will likely increase. They seem to have taken information out of context. The death rate is lower than it was previously, but that doesn't mean the CDC is close to declaring and end to the epidemic status.

"Epidemic threshold" is a single surveillance monitoring indicator, but it's not the only one. Recall the H1N1(2009) pandemic lasted 19 months (officially) and never exceeded the epidemic threshold for flu. The CDC definition of epidemic is more cases of a disease than expected in a given area affecting large numbers of people. The definition of pandemic is epidemic disease occurring worldwide. Since this is still occurring in multiple countries, I wouldn't expect an end declared any time soon.
