A Henry Ford Health System study shows the controversial anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine helps lower the death rate of COVID-19 patients, the Detroit-based health system said Thursday.

Officials with the Michigan health system said the study found the drug “significantly” decreased the death rate of patients involved in the analysis.

The study analyzed 2,541 patients hospitalized among the system’s six hospitals between March 10 and May 2 and found 13% of those treated with hydroxychloroquine died while 26% of those who did not receive the drug died.

Not listening to experts is why we, as a country, SUCK at getting this virus under control. Experts have told us to wear face coverings, clean our hands, practice social distancing, and enough of us do not because we believe in our gut that we know better, or we're done with all of this, and why aren't we better by now so clearly none of it worked so go out there and partay with your mask off because what do experts know anyway? 🤷‍♀️

Get licensed by the Govt to preform a laundry list of functions

Gladly give Amazon your credit card and personal info

You wear a seat belt

You take medicine for Hypertension, Cholesterol, Diabetes, Blood thinners, and, erections  gladly, because you depend on a govt that proved them safe and effective or pronounced the risk

You get on an airplane that is tightly regulated by the Govt in the most minor of details

You breath the air the Govt sets standards for

You drink the water produced by the Govt (in most cases)

 

But you refuse to even consider voluntary wearing a mask to prove you are fighting Govt control. My brains are going to run out of my freaking ears.

As I pointed out I meant you in the collective sense. I type all that and realized I had said you, so it was easier to add the disclaimer. I am probally about to be de-Conservatived. Its the white mans equivalent of being de-blacked.

   Looking at the study, 78.9% of the patients getting HCQ also got anti inflammatory steroids, but only 35.7% of patients in the non HCQ group got them. Steroids have shown to be extremely effective in treating severe cases of Covid-19. The median age of the HCQ group was also significantly younger (18 years younger to be precise). 

 

  It's a retrospective study, so just looking at treatment based data after the fact, but it's hard to see how the study can make any conclusions at all about HCQ. Did twice as many people die because they didn't get HCQ, or because they didn't get dexamethasone? Or did twice as many people die in the non HCQ group because they were much older as a group? 

 

  One thing for sure they were right about is that it's going to be difficult to extrapolate the findings.

No, definitely full-gluten in this household.  Neither of us have an intolerance and we both love real food. Just popped a loaf of white bread in the oven -- I was letting it do its second rise while I ran errands. I have more thoughts on this which I will move over to the derailment exempt thread, but in the meantime, what is a group of fewer than two?
