Not exactly the same science.

There are multiple vaccines under development at the moment that researchers are very optimistic about, some entering stage 3. I stay optimistic too. https://www.raps.org/news-and-articles/news-articles/2020/3/covid-19-vaccine-tracker

On the contrary, the science is EXACTLY the same.

The "common cold" is, after all, a coronavirus.

Yes some versions are corona  some are not. Thats the rub on the vacine. Its trying to find one key to unlock 200 doors.

We have had great success developing vaccines for viruses with very limited flavors

There are several hundred different strains of viruses that cause the common cold. About a quarter of them have not even been identified by species yet. If we take the most common one, Rhinovirus, there are ~160 known strains each of which would require it's own vaccine. It's not that it couldn't be done, it's mostly that it's a lot of work and resources based on the unlikely scenario where people wouldn't take several hundred vaccines to prevent an illness that has a mean time of 48 hours from start to finish.

When you narrow it down to a single virus or small group, then it's different. That's basically how the flu vaccination came about. For Covid-19 some of the vaccines may not work well, or not work at all, but chances are they will eventually find an antigenic target that does. It might eventually take an attenuated live vaccine, but they have made vaccines for other Coronaviruses that work.

Thank you for the non Brhu whats up version lol

Well somebody extremely well known in the Denver medical community did suggests to me a possible route for a vaccine, I always think these things are part science part superstition. I hope something works.

I honestly can not understand why people are insisting on vacation traveling right now. But the biggest problem is those who are traveling for vacation have this mentality that they are 'on vacation' so there are no rules! People are tired of being in quarantine and wearing masks so they take a vacation and dont want to wear them. They want to eat at restaurants and assemble into groups. So we are in a situation where those who are conservative and afraid of community spread (those who would wear a mask) are simply not coming on vacation. Those who are coming are the ones who either dont believe in community spread or they do but they just dont care cause vacation means you dont follow rules.

Breaking down our numbers this week:

Uh, should people not be allowed to live life for god knows how much longer? There are risks involved in living and not just staying in your house every day(plenty of risks to that, too). We went to a resort here that opened a few days ago just so we could stay there a couple of days, yup, we "insisted" it was time to get out of the house, even my wife with all her preexisting conditions doesn't really care anymore. It's time to move on, safely, and carefully. Now, I do agree if you're in a resort and they require masks then you should wear one. We did that. But honestly we don't do it unless we have to. Next month we are also travelling to Florida, Mexico, and Tanzania(long story, don't ask how they go together - they just do). We will wear masks when we have to, we will stay as far away from people as we can, we will sanitize when possible. That's all we can do, but life needs to go on.

I agree with you $110%.  I wear a mask to protect other people.  But other people are too rude and selfish to wear a mask to protect me.

And I think people who want to automatically assume everyone who doesn't wear a mask is either selfish or rude or both without taking into account the different things we have discussed here before as far as reasons why one might opt not to wear one, nor the fact some people medically cannot wear one, is prejudiced as hell and should look in the mirror before they generalize and judge others. I don't judge those who wear it out in the open even though they look like clowns in a big experiment testing the obedience of sheep being willing to look like idiots because they were told to, so those who wear it shouldn't judge those who don't, either. To each their own.

I am so glad you think those of us who wear masks look like clowns.  Is that why you will not wear them - vanity?  I know there are people that can't wear them.  I really can't but I do.  I have multiple lung conditions that make breathing difficult on good days.  When I put on a mask it makes it harder to breathe.  But I wear it anyway.  I am super cautious since I stand a good chance of having a really bad outcome if I get this virus.  I know life goes on and we must go out and live our lives. But it would be nice if everyone cooperated for the sake of everyone else.  Hopefully, next week our county will vote to make it mandatory.

There's no cooperating with "do what I want or I'll make it mandatory". The good faith experiment tolerated over the last months was proven a failure with the power grabbing and weaponization against political/ideological opponents, preferring to keep the economy shut down to hurt Trump,

I'm not going to wear a mask just because the irrationality will make some people comfortable.  Call it vanity, call it non-compliance, whatever you call it, individual freedom > collectivist authoritarianism.

That being said, I'm all for personal responsibility. If someone is aware they have the virus, they are obligated not to spread it. If they know they have such a virus and willfully cause its spread, they absolutely should be criminally and civilly liable.

I agree.  And if I knew I was sick, I would absolutely avoid others (especially where I live, lots of elderly abound).  The problem is being asymptomatic and infecting others.

But one of these days, people will come to the realization that the flu poses the same risks, and we have done nothing much in the past.  Now we are made more aware of it due to the scamdemic.

I though we settled the flu and covid are not the same risk issue, months ago
