If a bone graft is needed, it takes 4-6 months before they can even do an implant, then another 4-6 months after the implant before the implant crown.  @Neonred can confirm more about the timing, but my wife went through this twice and the 1.5 years from start to finish is a good estimate for a worst case.

Correct on the bone graft healing time if the implant cannot be placed at the same time.  Normal healing time for the implant is usually a little less in my experience.  I often rely on a trusted  surgical specialist friend (periodontist) to do some of my implant placements.  Lower jaw goes quicker because the bone is much more dense.  Often times the implant is ready to restore in just 2 months or just a little longer.  The upper jaw takes longer because the bone is more porous, usually 3 months minimum.  There are a couple of ways to test to know if it is healed and ready.  Used to tap firmly on the implant and if it sounded hard as a rock it was probably ready.  I know some surgeons that use a torque wrench and test the implant to see if it will withstand a certain torque.  I've never liked that idea as it has potential for creating a larger problem, and it's a totally unnatural motion.  My trusted surgeon friend measures resonance frequency with a special device.  Noninvasive and seems to be a great tool.

on mine (lower jaw) they did some fancy measuring thingy to get the thickness in mm.  not too sure i'd want any tapping on it or torquing it......

The Brits say that Dexamethasone might be the better bet for helping the sickest patients get through the virus. Wonder if that's going to make getting ahold of it harder, especially for Addisons patients that need it to survive. I used to give my old dog Dex shots all the time, but I know at some point there was an issue that made getting the drug very difficult and caused problems.

   That's true, but he was also on the wrong side of the science this time. He wasn't the only one though.
