Yeah I told him that I’d like to find out if my oath next week would be cancelled. He asked me what location it was. I told him the Plano Event Center location. He looked up something and then told me it would still be held.

I called. Explained that I wanted to verify if my oath ceremony was still taking place tomorrow. I asked about speaking with a tier 2 officer and the rep stated that for the purposes of looking up oath ceremonies that they would be looking at the same information/system (not sure if that's accurate or not). She said based on what she sees the only thing cancelled for tomorrow is the Portland oath ceremony.

I don't know...my conclusion is I will only find out the facts when I go there tomorrow in person....

I checked the Plano Event Center website earlier today and they did not list the oath ceremony event in their calendar.

Is that the one your ceremony is supposed to be at?

yes, the Plano Event Center is where they host oath ceremonies for the Dallas Fort Worth metropolis, besides the courthouse ceremonies (which are for people who wish to change their names).

Sounds like it’s not too bad for SF oath takers. At least they said the ceremonies will be scheduled in 30 days. Looks like they will restructure the ceremony to be smaller ones and will be held at the field office or theaters.

acc to the NY Times this morning:

"California joined other states in imposing new measures aimed at containing the virus, telling residents to postpone or cancel gatherings of more than 250 people through the end of March. It also advised against gatherings in smaller venues that don’t allow for 6 feet between people."

most likely the same for USCIS. So yup, 250 people max oath ceremonies.

Hope for the best! I think at this point people wouldn't mind even if USCIS conduct it like a drive through pharmacy transaction as long as the oath ceremony doesn't get canceled.

Court-based oath ceremonies in Manhattan are suspended after Friday 3/13. Only a subset of citizens-to-be go to these court-based ceremonies. The majority go to non-court based ceremonies in a federal govt building.

The district is also halting ceremonies for immigrants being sworn in as US citizens after Friday, Friedland added. Two naturalization ceremonies scheduled for Friday will still take place, but will be limited to only the candidates who are becoming US citizens. Family and friends, who normally pack a courtroom for the celebratory process, will not be allowed to attend.
