Have a friend who was potentially exposed.  Has a dr's note to be tested. Has tried 3 different testing facilities on 2 different days in Denver.  They're out of tests. @Orangesapples is currently correct as testing will soon be non-existent.

Have your friend call some of the hospital's and ask about the drive through locations. We were supposed to close at 5 PM yesterday and let any vehicle that was in the line go through. Everything was set up for throughput and then we only had 4 people come through from 4pm to 5pm.

Many locations only started testing on Thursday or Friday last week, and even a lot of staff didn't know we had started yesterday. For many, I think they just haven't got the word out yet. Ours is not open on the weekend yet though, but some are.

Well, yeah, that's what I mean, practically non existent. I just woke up with flu like symptoms and I don't even know if it's worth it trying to get tested 😕

Testing is close to capacity. My own criteria (for myself) is if I have symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 (fever, myalgia, dry cough) I will get tested. If I have other symptoms like runny nose or sore throat but no fever, I will not. If I am around someone with flu like symptoms I will not get tested. If I am around someone who was confirmed positive I will self quarantine and get test if needed (required where I work ATM). If I have severe respiratory symptoms I will go to ER.

If they can increase testing capacity, I would get tested for any of the above situations. The laboratory we send tests to say they can meet demand for all their current clients at the current level of testing and hope to have additional capacity in the next couple of weeks. They could very easily hit their limit in that time frame.

I thought we had a severe shortage of tests ?

We just switched from sending to the state lab to the reference lab that we use for other esoteric testing. They are a national reference laboratory and developed their own test and just started accepting request from clients. According to their website they can only test for their current clients at this time. They hope to be able to increase capacity in the next two weeks, but don't have an ETA for when they can do private testing. We do a lot of testing, so hopefully this takes some of the demand off the state lab as we send ours elsewhere.

There is still a shortage of tests, and there will be going forward. The best that laboratories can do right now is try to scale production to keep up with increasing demand. It's the sinking ship scenario now. They are trying to stay afloat and that's really all they can do. The best opportunity was to be able to test everyone at the beginning of the outbreak before community circulation picked up. Before the ship started sinking.

Finally convinced her to just stay the F home today. Regardless shes sick with something (she had a flu shot on thursday too) so she should stay home.

We're both in our 30s and should be fine if we get sick.  It's ideal to keep others from getting sick as well though.

Can the doctor submit the request for testing directly to a lab?

No.

Other failures appear to have been related to a lack of preparation within agencies that spanned administrations but certainly continued through the first three years of Trump’s tenure.

Masks and gowns were in short supply despite years of talk about bulking up federal emergency stockpiles — without Congress appropriating enough money.

I have a fever, fatigue and a sore throat, all started suddenly. Nothing else but I can't get out of bed. I've been in contact with people traveling, but no COVID cases that I know of. Unfortunately, some of my coworkers are immunosuppressed 😕

Oh, DO STOP it with all your #fakenews drama.  It's all Trump's fault!!  He's the one who paid China to create the virus to get him out of the impeachment spotlight.

Stay in bed and hydrate.  If you feel a fever coming on, let it happen, cover up with an extra blanket and sweat it out.  Sorry you are feeling ill.  Hopefully it's just the flu, nothing worse.

We have to move forward from where we are, but there are several lessons learned to be captured.

This is certainly true. It has been exacerbated by not having competent people in the right positions. Having Pence head this up was not a good call.

They have said sore throat is not common with Covid-19, but everyone's symptoms can vary. With fever and fatigue I would probably try to get a test done if I could. If I had a couple of days off, I might watch my symptoms and see, but if it was a weekday, I would have to miss work if it was a fever, and then they would make me get tested.
