I have a visa interview scheduled for the coming Monday and just received the following email...

Quote

Dear Applicant,

Please be informed that in light of current circumstances your visa appointment had to be cancelled. We encourage you to monitor our website for information on when you can reschedule.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
US Visa Service Desk

When checking ustraveldocs.com my interview is still showing as scheduled. No additional information is available online. Obviously it has to do with the President's proclamation but I'm not sure why they are cancelling visa appointments

I sent an email to the IV section at Frankfurt asking for clarification.

Has anyone else had their interview cancelled? Not quite sure how to proceed at this point but this is throwing a serious wrench in our plans. 😒

Given the current stuff going on and embassy's are technically US soil then I imagine they have been informed to shut shop for a while. Must admit I didn't foresee that coming.

Hello! I have an appointment in two weeks for J1 Visa and it is cancelled too. I received the same e Mail like u.

Where are you from? I‘m from Germany

Germany as well.

If I'd have to guess, I'd say they are shutting down the whole consulate for at least 2 weeks. Just speculation on my part though. I don't have any info as to why the interview appointments are being cancelled.
I re-booked to the first possible appointment on April 6th, which was actually the day we had planned to fly to the US. Guess that's not happening now.

Possibly they don’t see a point in issuing visas until it’s clear that the recipients can actually fly to the US?

Possibly. Although not every visa applicant is automatically barred from flying to the US. The proclamation seems to be fairly clear on scope and limitation.

Hm, yes the holder of a spouse visa would be excluded from the ban, you’re right.

This assumes that planes will fly, they won't fly them empty

Train/plane to UK and then onto the US is an option. Though they did mention something about funneling eligible travelers from schengen to a few airports for health checks, I guess the planes could be flying from those.

  • 3 weeks later...

I thought the USCIS field office in Frankfurt was permanently closed. I had checked their website before the whole Covid-19 fiasco, and it was already closed. I have no idea if they plan to reschedule folks like you at the Consulate instead (see the comment I pasted below). That may be why they didn't give you details yet; they're trying to juggle hundreds of appointments with limited staff?

Here's the page that might help:

https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/international-offices/germany-frankfurt-field-office

Below the big "alerts" box, it says "USCIS permanently closed its field office in Frankfurt, Germany, on Jan. 31, 2020. The U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt assumed responsibility for certain limited services previously provided by USCIS to individuals residing in Germany (see table below)." And then they have a table with some explanations.

Good luck!

Most of these people filed DCFs when USCIS field office Frankfurt still accepted/processed the final case load. The cancelled appointments refer to the visa interview for CR1, which means they have approved I-130’s from USCIS already.

I have the same email and my appointment at Frankfurt consulate was supposed to be soon. I had my trip to Frankfurt planned already for this. At first my medical was cancelled, but I tried to keep it, but then I got the cancellation of the visa appointment.

If you are truly DCF you will need to monitor when appointments are reopened and schedule a new appointment.
