New Passport during the process

My fiancé went to the police station in Bangkok to get her police report and thru did not return her passport and now they cannot find her passport.

My fiancé is now getting a new passport which will have a new number. We do have copies of her old passport, which I included in our original application to the USCIS.

Our documents just arrived at the NVC today and have not been sent to the embassy.

Any suggestions about how to deal with the new passport right in the middle of the K1 process?

I renewed my passport in middle of process (so that I'd have a 10 year one once I moved to the US, not have to worry about renewing from outside country for a while).

Assuming the passport has same name, place of birth, date of birth plus photo looks like the same person, it shouldn't be a problem. USCIS will be fully aware that people get new passports - if they ask, you can make them aware of why it was renewed.

I renewed my passport while waiting our case transfer and put my new passport number on DS160. I was advised to bring the old passport with new one at the interview as my previous US visas are there. So I guess it should be okay as long as she doesn’t have us visa stamped on her previous passport.. But  I would contact the embassy to explain this situation and ask what to do if I were you, just to be sure!

It's probably not a problem, but perhaps you may think about getting a police report on the lost passport (as ironic as it sounds). That may help justify the lost passport and the new one.

I learned the hard way, I hope YOU don't have to. Advice: learn, learn, learn.

New passport is not an issue. Done all the time. Just bring the new passport, your copies of the old passport and an explanation if asked by the CO. They are aware that new passports are a part of the process for procurement of a visa.
