K1 Certificate of no impediment- for gay couple

Hi guys, So I'm required to get a certificate of no impediment for my visa interview. I collected the form to fill out at the rdg office, however the form is intended for a bride and groom as homosexuality is not legal here.

Does anyone here knows how I should fill this out of if it would apply to me in this case? My fiancé and I are both females.

The USC does not need a CNI but does need to provide any divorce decree from a previous marriage and the Jamaican citizen does need to provide the CNI. So you complete the document with your name and your USC name. The CNI when issued will go directly to the embassy. Whether you are a LBGQT couple doesn't matter to the US consulate.

When you are at the VJ sub forum for all things dealing with the US Embassy in Haiti most there will help answer your questions for the processing of your visa using their personal experience.

Likely will have to just fill it out as if you are hetero couple (my guess). It's going to my harder for you all to get a K1 visa from Jamaica.

Thank you @GreenbaumI went to the office and filled it out correctly. The bride and groom section only applies to someone who’s been married before. So all I had to put was my personal info.

Also I’m in Jamaica so I’m not sure why you made mention to Haiti.

@Thegirl I would love to hear why you think it will be harder for us to get a k1 in Jamaica.. is it because we’re gay? Or something else?

It just means that unfortunately across immigration different groups of people experience more difficulty for a variety of reasons... and yes bc you're a same sex couple from a country that doesn't recognize same sex marriage ( I know you're not married). Just make sure you have a solid case so they would have to try extremely hard to find a reason to deny you. I hope I didn't cause any added worry. It was not my intention.

Honestly I’m not worried about that part. Mostly because I’ll probably be interviewed by people who’re trained to not be impartial (heck they flew the pride glag at our embassy when it was legalized in the US) and secondly because from most reviews I’ve read by gay couples, their interview was treated with more discretion (private office interview for sensitive questions) but regardless I know our case is pretty strong and we have lots of evidence to prove it.

all I’m a lil worried about is my interview is at the end of this month (March 2020) and the embassy has suspended their service until further notice- so it’s a bit rattling right now.

Also I’m in Jamaica so I’m not sure why you made mention to Haiti. Because I am old and cranky and I was working on a few things for 3 ppl from Haiti and I was pretty well grossed into what I was doing for them. Oh well, right church wrong pew I guess. Sorry No offense intended.

Since the beginning of the change in ruling for same sex couples no US embassy has had any bias (that we have had reported here on VJ from VJ members) toward same sex couples. They are held to the same standards as others. This has been the US Embassy's policy and stands that way today.
