was told to called USCIS after getting married by CBP officer upon entry?

hey all!

 

just a little confused here. upon entry in the US on a K1 visa, the border patrol officer going through the paperwork told my now husband to call USCIS immediately once we married to notify of them of the marriage. i have never heard of anything like this before, and calling USCIS is pretty much impossible. was anyone told the same thing? is it required that we do this? it seems like there is a mass amount of misinformation among government employees lately - it would be really helpful to hear from those with similar experiences! we are really scared about messing up the AOS process.

The CBP officer had no clue what he was talking about. They don't know the AOS process.

No need to tell anybody about your marriage, except on the I-485 when you file it to get the green card.

I agree with @geowrian , CBP does not know the AOS process.  Get married, then file the AOS as soon as you can.

At LAX the officer told us our K-1 had now converted to a CR-1. I just bit my lip and smiled. I know what he was trying to say but c'mon))))

What do you think he was trying to say?  

 

I would asked for the I-551 endorsement. And then if he balked, asked for the EAD endorsement.
