To those with non-changeable / non-refundable flights but who are willing to look into flying earlier: most airlines companies are currently waiving change / cancellation fees.

Even if your flight doesn't fit the criteria - I think it's still worth it calling the airline & speaking directly to their representative. The airlines are bending over backwards to accommodate travelers right now.

As per tonight's White House address, flights from Europe (to the USA) will be banned for 30 days from midnight on Friday.

(I think the UK is excluded from that...but it's nearby and could easily get caught up in the ban at some point)

Hi all,

I’m flying out to the Us on my k-1 Visa next month from the UK.

My visa is due to expire at the end of April. Does anyone know if travel is restricted due to the Coronavirus outbreak if that could be extended in special circumstances?

Thanks

Per New York Times today:

>> President Trump said he would be suspending all travel from Europe for the next 30 days starting Friday. The restrictions will not apply to Britain.

You should fly today.

Today President Donald J. Trump signed a Presidential Proclamation, which suspends the entry of most foreign nationals who have been in certain European countries at any point during the 14 days prior to their scheduled arrival to the United States. These countries, known as the Schengen Area, include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. This does not apply to legal permanent residents, (generally) immediate family members of U.S. citizens, and other individuals who are identified in the proclamation.

Trump bungled the details a bit. It's not a restriction on travel from Europe, it's a restriction on most foreign nationals who have been in certain European countries in the last 14 days.

So in the OP's case, since the UK is excluded, don't go to other countries. The more countries you visit, the greater chance you could end up being restricted if one of those countries is on the "14 day ban list"

The travel ban should be lifted by then. The ban is from March 14 for 30 days.

So, if would it be possible to travel to Canada, stay in Canada for 15 days and travel to the USA with my K1 visa? I did text the German embassy yesterday, but haven’t received a reply yet.

If you don’t mind reporting back, I’d be interested in hearing what the German embassy reply is for your situation given the circumstances.

So I just received an email from the consulate:

Travel Information:
On March 11, President Trump suspended entry to the United States for most foreign nationals who had been in Schengen zone countries at any time in the 14 days prior to their arrival in the United States. (The Schengen zone includes Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.)
This does not apply to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents and (generally) immediate family members of U.S. citizens. However, the Department of Homeland Security has announced that U.S. citizens who have been in the Schengen zone in the last 14 days may only be permitted to arrive at select airports, in order to facilitate enhanced screenings.

This proclamation is effective at 11:59 p.m. eastern daylight time on March 13, 2020.  This proclamation does not apply to persons aboard a flight scheduled to arrive in the United States that departed prior to 11:59 p.m. eastern daylight time on March 13, 2020.

We do not have further information on which airports or the nature of the screenings. The Department of Homeland Security is responsible for U.S. border controls and entry regulations. You should direct specific inquiries on entering the United States to them. Their website can be found here.

Visa Applicant Information
If you have a visa appointment, please plan to attend as scheduled.  We will contact you if there is a change in visa processing due to the suspension of entry into the United States. Please monitor our website for further updates.
