The IRS says if you were a married person on the last day of 2019, then you file Married..

That can be Married Filing Joint with some extra effort or Married Filing Separately.

There are many good threads in this forum that talk about your same situation. Scan through several pages back and find similar questions.

Hi all,

Me and my spouse have been married for  2.5 years and she legally migrated to US on Nov 28, 2019. How do i file my taxes?

Everything up to Nov 28 as single and Nov 29 to Dec 31 as  MFJ?

thank you

I hope by single u meant married filing separatley. You shouldnt file single (not married) for the last 2.5 years since you are married even your spouse was not in the states.

You can file Married filing Separately, just like you should have done the last two years, or file Married filing Jointly as it is going to give you a larger refund.
