Concur with GB's statement above. Manila didn't ask us for any. I was with my fiance (now wife) at the interview. Asked her about six questions. Painless.  It is far more important that they have the required documents.

Am I allowed to accompany my fiance and her kids during their interview? I will be there at the time.

For the Philippines absolutely!  :)   I was there with my wife, excellent experience.

Not all embassies allow the petitioner at the interview.

My fiance interviewed in the Philippines yesterday and got a 221(g) refusal for a couple of items. One was relationship evidence. I recently decided not to be there for the interview because of COVID-19, so the original plan of showing photos from a second trip did not pan out. I had hoped that a letter explaining that would be enough. It wasn't. We plan to respond to the 221(g) by sending in about 10 pages of facebook chat spread over the months since our last visit, almost a year ago. The other reason for refusal was that her birth certificate was late issued and has other errors. According to a state department webpage, two affidavits of birth are enough to replace that, if the official certificate says that no original is available.

I'm starting to get concerned as my Birth Certificate was re-issued 4 years after I was born to add my father to it.

Who provided your affidavits, if you don't mind me asking? I'm worried that it may come up and I'll have to provide extra information. (even though my fiancée provided a full copy of my passport which confirms my D.o.B. on the Birth Certificate.)

It might not have been an issue, even in our case, if there were not other discrepancies in spelling. I haven't done much research, but as long as the relatives are not going over at the same time, then they apparently are considered disinterested parties and can sign the affidavits. If that's the case, then it will be her parents. We are also tracking down the baptismal and school records, etc. to try be safe.

so you just had pictures and proof from the first trip and nothing in the past year?    it does say just proof of 1 meeting within 2 years but also proof of continuing relationship since sending in the I129F if I am not mistaken.

I also thought either a passport or birth cert was ok not needed both?

I had a signed letter explaining the situation and a described how many chat messages between us there were, as well as the money transfer for the visa application, and the updated intent to marry. I thought that would be enough. I was wrong.

She definitely needed both a passport and birth cert. Apparently she got a late birth cert which was enough for the passport, but now she needs to get more.

I assume that the reasons behind these requirements is that they have seen fraud coming out of similar situations, and they are trying to do us a favor by insisting on these things.

I’d like t add to this thread, since were all here. ☺️

my fiance is Nigerian and I’ve heard it all at this point. We just got back home from a week spent together (first time in person after dating for 1 yr +) and I’m already being told we’ll need more time spent. We talk multiple times a day, chat and call (over FB messenger) exchange pictures constantly of our daily ongoings, and I kept our boarding passes and a few receipts from our trip. So my question is, are any of you dealing with Nigerian RFE? How much “evidence” did you go to your interview with? The Nigeria thread is strangely quiet so I thought I’d throw it out here.

My fiance was not allowed to bring her mother with her to the exam to help with her daughter. That was in Manila.
