It varies from case to case. For some, N400 has helped push I751 along. For others, no such thing as I751 was resolved before N400 reached the local office (like myself, see my signature). For some, N400 file has reached the local office but I751 hasn't so their case could not be resolved for weeks to months.

Oh so you mean approval for the I-751? They usually do a combo

This happened to me and went for my citizenship interview. The officer requested to have file transferred to local office. She actually rolled her eyes and said they are so slow. I was recommended for approval on citizenship. Within two days my 1-751 was approved and my oath was scheduled. Hope that helps

We just got notice that the interview for my wife’s N400 is scheduled for 6/14. Of course no movement on her I-751 since biometrics were taken in July 2021…but we called the service center last week and the officer recommended I attend the interview and we take all our i-751 paperwork as they typically will do a combo interview (as others have said). Fingers crossed that actually happens so we can wrap this all up!

Congratulations! Could you please tell what did you do to get connected with the officer? I just can't get through when I am calling.

Thanks! When you get the automated system you have to say you’re looking for an Infopass appointment and then you’ll get routed to an officer eventually. Good luck!

Thanks for advise, that worked. Actually the waiting time was pretty short. Now I am just waiting for an office to call me back to schedule an appointment. They said I should   expect a call within 30 days but I wonder what is the average waiting time?

Glad you got through to someone! We’ve had that situation a few times where they said they’d call within 20 or 30 days and I would say it’s been as close to the end of that time period as possible unfortunately. Definitely want to contact them early if you need something on a deadline (but not too early I guess or they’ll just tell you to call back).

Hi All,

Just looking for some type of help.

We submitted my husband's i-751 in April 2020 and didn't receive that 18 months extension until July 2020, apparently they don't know why it was never sent to be 😕 . Anywho, the received date on the extension is April 30, 2020. They did biometrics in December 2020 and no movement since then, he's gotten his extension stamp on his passport in December 2021 then in January 2022 we received the 24 months extension letter. However, still nothing I have no idea which center it's at, the biometric appointment letter says NBC but the extension has no service center on it.

We've filled out requests online for past date haven't heard anything back, just want him to get his 10 year GC already. I've seen a few users that have it and submitted their packets around same time as we did. I know some have applied for N-400, but my husband isn't ready to do it (currently learning english).

I don't know if calling will make a difference, any help would be greatly appreciated.

We submitted around the same time as you did and had similar experiences with the extension letter and stamps. My wife had her biometrics July 2021 and we’ve heard nothing since then on I-751 either, although her N400 interview is coming up soon so I’m going to attend with her and hope they turn it into a combo.

You could call and ask if they have any updates (you’ll have to tell the automated system you’re calling for an infopass appointment). It likely won’t speed it up but you may at least get some info from them.

on your extension or appointment letter there should be a receipt number that has the 3 letter service center at the beginning, or on the passport stamp they should have handwritten the number and maybe wrote pending next to it. You mentioned NBC on one of your letters, so perhaps look for MSC at the start of the receipt number as that would be the national benefits center which likely means you’ll have an interview before the GC is issued.

Also in case it wasn’t clear on the 24 month extension, that’s from the date the original GC expires not the date of the letter, so just make sure to monitor which is the later expiration date (letter or stamp) so you can get another stamp before both expire.

Well, today was interview day for my wife’s N400. We were still waiting for her I-751 approval as well, so I went with her in hopes of a combination interview (as recommended by the USCIS call center). Initially the guard only let my wife upstairs, but when they called her back for the interview and saw I was stuck outside, they came down and got me for the combo interview.

Excited to say both the I-751 and N400 were approved today! While the interview time was too late for a same day oath taking, she instead gets to be part of the big formal oath ceremony here in Seattle on July 4th, which should be awesome!

We wanted to say thank you to everyone on this forum. While we didn’t post a lot, we learned so much about the process from this forum (including finding out about the DCF process that started this journey off when that existed and I was living in the Philippines) and the experiences and help you all give everyone here.

just a quick item that may help others as they’re searching for tips… for all of our applications throughout the process we went a little heavier on evidence than we probably needed to. Lots of photos and other documents showing our life together.

I asked the officer about that when we finished the process and she noted it was a lot (not the most she’s seen thankfully), but that it was really helpful and gave her no doubt we were truly married. She also mentioned that it was very easy to follow because we organized into sections and had a cover letter with table of contents. That’s probably one reason I-751 interview was so quick today. So I guess for anyone starting the process I’d suggest killing a few trees and sending in maybe a little more evidence that the minimum noted on the application. Just make sure it’s relevant / quality evidence of course.

best wishes for a speedy approval for everyone else waiting!!
