I have, twice. Latest one was this weekend 8/21/21. No problems at all (provided of course that the extension hasn't expired).

His NOA actually ends January 17 2021, since his greencard ended July 17, 2020. He was thinking of flying out for 5 days in November (2 months before it expires). We are thinking Turkish Air as we have used them a lot of fly to Macedonia in the past.

As long as he is back in the USA before the expiration of the extension letter he will have no issues. He will need to be back in the USA for any appointment that may come up during his absence for either case. 

 

If he plans to depart near the expiration date of the extension letter (18 months past green card expiration) then he can get an i551 stamp in his passport, USCIS issues those 30 days before the extension letter expires. (This must be done in USA)

Thank you. We are thinking he will fly out for just 5 days, but we may have him go earlier then, maybe October. Good luck to your Husband, it is so frustrating waiting.

Starting Sept. 4, 2021, USCIS is extending the time that receipt notices can be used to show evidence of status from 18 months to 24 months for petitioners who properly file Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, or Form I-829, Petition by Investor to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status. We are making the change from 18 to 24 months to accommodate current processing times for Form I-751 and Form I-829, which have increased over the past year.

Conditional permanent residents who properly file Form I-751 or Form I-829 will receive a receipt notice that can be presented with their Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card), as evidence of continued status for up to 24 months past the expiration date on their Green Card, while their case remains pending with USCIS.

Additionally, we will issue new receipt notices to eligible conditional permanent residents who properly filed their Form I-751 or Form I-829 before Sept. 4 and whose cases are still pending. Those receipt notices will also serve as evidence of continued status for 24 months past the expiration date on their Green Card.

As a reminder, conditional permanent residents who plan to be outside of the United States for a year or more should apply for a reentry permit by filing Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, before leaving the country. It looks like it. I sure hope so. I actually just came on here to find out wth was going on since my extension expires in a couple months and I haven’t heard a thing in over a year. *sigh*. New DL for 6 extra months I guess *eye roll*

My extension is up a month on Friday. Driving me insane. Every time I look at the processing times, doesn’t seem to be shifting much. I even put in my N400 and everything is silent. Some people on the N400 group have got their citizenship. The waiting is literally the worst part.  🤷🏽‍♀️

Urgh I feel you. I haven’t put in the N400 because honestly I wasn’t sure I wanted to do that. But, I started it last weekend after seeing some people getting their citizenship way faster than their 10 year. So now I’m applying just because. So stupid. It’s a really a joke that we have to live like this. I know there’s an insane backlog, but surely they can push forward with those really straight forward cases to clear some of the backlog.

Check your local office N-400 processing times. Your I-751 will be "attached to" N-400 and that's your expected timeline for processing both. There is no "fast lane" for processing both applications together (despite declarations that it should be) as with this backlog, they simply do not bother with it...

so if I apply for the N400 does my case get transferred to another office? A local office? Or does it stay at the place I was assigned to for the I-751

Your case is "sitting on the shelf" of the processing center (eg. MSC) until your local office requests your file (it is valid for both I-751 and N-400). They are supposed to process them as a combo (but sometimes they don't as they weren't bothered with digging enough to notice that you have 2 cases, but I digress).

Timelines for processing  N-400 are published and broke down to local offices level (don't know why they don't want to provide this info for I-751). But it all comes down to your local office requesting your file...

interesting. So for N-400 at my local office it says 5.5-13 months. Well it’s already been 17months since I-751. So, if I have both sitting it’s just whichever comes up first?

I would guess so, that it should be that way; however sometimes I believe that it depends on a moon phase and star alignments 🙄

They are not obliged to process cases in order (like from the eldest to the newest). The date of submitting I-751 will not influence (speed up) your N-400 processing. It used to be that way and there were  guidelines encouraging them to do it that way... but guidelines are soft and non-binding.

My area office is 11-15 months wait. They are still working on March 2020. It’s a lose lose right now. Nothing is moving. I’d get it in for the sake of it! It might just push yours a little faster especially if it’s only a 5 month wait. All we can do is wait.
