Sponsor's Household Size. Anyone?

Greetings!

Here is the situation:

If you are the sponsor filing for I-864 to an immigrant, your husband is not in the USA, with no communication for  45 years or more (separated in other words ), you have never supported him for that long.

Would you put zero/0 when are asked to put 1 if married? Adding one to the household size? The sponsor was confused as in the eyes of the law and the church they are still married in their country with no annulment filed Or would it be okay to just put zero/ o then explain. 

I need your thoughts. Thank you very much.

My thoughts are answer the question directly how it is asked with no extra thinking or explaining your ideas to the government. 
 

The sponsor has a husband (that is not the beneficiary). Put a 1 for him.
