Sorry, but you are FoS on this one.  Youth is more gullible and less wise, overall.

I'm not talking about taking vacations.  I mean actually living in foreign countries.  Immersing oneself into the cultures.

I'm also talking about the same. I've both traveled a lot and I've lived abroad for quite some time, not even counting the US where I'm currently living.

Older people didn't grow up with technology and they're less likely to be able to discern legitimate online sources. That's why older people are the ones that share the most outrageous fake stories on Facebook and Nextdoor. Pretty entertaining to read (just like this one) but also scary that so many people believe made up stuff.

Now there are young anti vaxxers and stuff. That's not the point though. I only mentioned age because you did.

So you can say with 100% certainty that we have been told the whole truth as a world of people?  No chance of someone covering up a bio weapon that was accidentally released?  Or perhaps copying a book written back in 1981?

I can 100% say that the theory of the coronavirus being a bio weapon makes zero sense and must be the most stupid way for powerful people to achieve any kind of goal. I'm pretty sure the people capable of creating and introducing a bio weapon are not idiots who would do something that doesn't benefit them at all.

I guess we have a different definition of "old" then.  But fair enough.  I'm pretty technologically advanced, in spite of the fact that I have never tweeted anything and the only insta-anything I have is an Insta Pot.

The military bio lab in Wuhan houses more than 1,500 viruses.  If you don't think that there is research going on into using said viruses for weapons, then we can both just walk away from this convo, because you obviously don't get it.

so in your professional opinion, there is zero chance that a virus housed in the Wuhan bio lab (which maintains more than 1,500 viruses) accidentally got out and infected people?

I readily admit that I know far less about gene sequencing than you likely do, and there may be a way to say with 100% certainty that this wasn't man made, or that it didn't come from the bio lab... but I think the possibility exists.  And is made even more likely by the fact that the bio lab was damn near right at ground zero.  But sure, it COULD be coincidence.

Why do we need to entertain a hypothesis that a virus accidentally got out of a lab when zoonotic diseases have been a thing for forever? SARS, MERS, HIV, swine flu, mad cow, bird flu, etc. It's not improbable at all that a virus jumped from an animal to a human and evolved from there. It fact, it's the most likely explanation when Chinese people have so much contact with wild animals compared to other countries.

That is certainly one viable explanation.  But quite a few diseases originate in the region.

What's funny is that China is pissed at the USA now because we kicked out some of their journalists in retaliation of them kicking out some WSJ journalists from China for covering their response to the virus.

They are now putting out the narrative that this virus is man made by the USA, and that the USA unleashed it on China as a biological weapon. Unfortunately for people like my nephew in the Philippines who is/was NPA he believes anything China puts out, and he has argued with my wife about this. Not to mention Iran has taken this kind of thinking up as well

Both narratives are beyond ridiculous and nonsensical. The US creating this virus and then mishandling it badly makes less than zero sense.

But way too many people believe conspiracy theories.

Completely agree with you on this.

What's really sad is that my nephew is actually a journalist as well in the Philippines. He got some big recognition from Duterte a few years back during a protest he was covering.

But he has spouted many conspiracy theories about the USA to us.

I would highly advise watching/listening to the Joe Rogan Podcast because he let's this guy go real in depth with everything.

Looks like so far less than .0009% of the US population have contracted coronavirus.
