Of the 75 countries studied, there were only six in which the majority of people held no bias towards women. But while more than 50% of people in Andorra, Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden were free from gender prejudice, even here the pattern was not one of unmitigated progress.

Sweden, for example, was one of several countries – including South Africa, India, Rwanda and Brazil – in which the percentage of people who held at least one bias increased over the nine years the data covered. More than half of people in the UK and the US held at least one bias.

It's International Women's Day tomorrow. Try not to be biased, and that goes for all of us, of every sex and gender.

Seriously, I'll look at your links after shower time, which is now. Surprise birthday party to go to today out in the middle of nowhere, near Joshua Tree. A nice long drive to catch up on podcasts.

According to the title, if 9 out of 10 people are biased against women, then at least 4 out of 5 women are biased against women. I will borrow a line from 90DF and say I am having difficulty reconciling this.

No, that's correct. Women are also biased against women. That's how ingrained the patriarchy is in many places.

Truth is, if you are either a male or a female (and those are the only two sane options), you have a 95.667% chance of someone being biased against you.

And women are biased against men.  And men are biased against men.  It's almost like it's not worthy of a discussion, because we are all biased.

I agree, everyone has biases for whatever reason.

I just have come back from my morning perusal of the Graun after wondering why it was so dark when I woke up.

They do have a lot of IWD coverage, a bit worrying that a progressive media platform focuses on just the one gender and ignores all the others.

They had several articles open for comments, however they got shut down pretty quickly usually a sign that they were not meeting the required groupthink.

Meanwhile Buzzfeed has an interesting article on issues at the Graun -

Presumably the party was to celebrate IWD.

So I drove out here to the desert, Al in the passenger seat the whole way. We were talking about a small inheritance he's supposed to be getting from a great uncle or something. Anyway, he said he had plans for it. Either (1) World Series of Poker or (2) the Gumball 3000. I said both of these were terrible ideas. He said he was leaning towards the Gumball, and he thought I should be the one to do the driving. I asked if he was smoking crack, because there was no way I could do that. He said he was not going to stand in the way of me empowering myself as a woman, and that I should reject the constraints of the patriarchy and do what he thinks is right for me. 🙄 Also it would be funny to watch.

Joke's on him, entrance fee is much bigger than that inheritance (~£20k). I'm not keen on the world series of poker though.
