  The law was amended in 1978 so that even assisting the Nazi party in WWII results in inadmissibility. This was applied retroactively, and was unsuccessfully challenged in court. 

 

  The exceptions list for communist party membership is broad enough to allow almost anyone. There is a 10 year moratorium on that one, so most people who were forced to join during the Soviet era would not be affected by that specific question, but possibly by other activities.
