Hi all,

I am seeking on input regarding anyone with experience getting Obamacare in California for parents with GC. My parents are over 65 with pre-existing conditions. They will report their foreign pension. I am particularly interested in Obamacare and not medi-cal to avoid the risk of Public Charge issues. I understand there is a lot of debate on what constitutes a Public Charge but just wondering if folks can share their experiences?

Please understand that it will be very valuable to share these experiences and I will do the same to help others who may need it.

Thank you!

Obtaining a tax credit is not a public charge issue, now to what extent they are entitled to a tax credit will depend on their income. many people who buy through the Exchange do not obtain any subsidy.

Are you planning on making them dependents on your income taxes? Because that means that their income is your household income. If you couldn't get a subsidy/tax credit, neither will they. Budget for high Covered CA deductibles, maybe $5,000 each per year.
