Sorry if this is a daft question but as the beneficiary do I need my American fiance's birth certificate as well as mine? It doesn't seem very clear.

I also can't see the reason for bringing my grown up unmarried child's one either who is not coming, but that's another question 😶 I'd be really grateful for clarification. Thank you.

Nothing from the US person at the interview except an I-134 and a proof of income. No chats, no photos, no NOA2 or copy of petition packet.

I did not bring my grown children’s birth certificates. The website has said that for 12 years but I have never seen a post in this forum in all that time where someone said they were faulted for not having them. I think it probably stems from children (not grown ones) are eligible for a visa now or up to a year later based on the parent’s approved petition. So I guess they would need birth certificates if they were issuing K2 visas to eligible children. I dunno what’s correct, but I didn’t bother.

They also used to say marriage certificate to ex. Made no sense.  They finally took that off the website leaving just proof of divorce.

Oh that makes a lot of sense, thank you. My letter of confirmation arrived with my reference number on it but I'm reading things about a K Visa package with instructions I should have too, but I think this is commonly quite slow to arrive?

Your advice on the new rules / form wrt public charge has also been extremely helpful and much appreciated.

The instruction package (you don’t actually need it) says to use the website for instruction.
https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/applying-for-the-visa/

Their steps have gotten a little out of order in my opinion. I will paste in the order that works well. You can start immediately.

K1 London

I would suggest:

  1. Submit DS-160.
  2. Gather documents. (for interview as well as documents for medical appointment). You don't want a looming appointment if you hit a hiccup and won't have what you need for the appointment.
  3. Book your medical date by calling the clinic. 020 7486 7822.
  4. Book the courier, pay, and pick an interview date all at the same time on https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv. Select “I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a K visa appointment”. Leave 10-14 days between medical and interview for best results.
  5. Attend your medical.
  6. Attend your interview.

Gather documents step is important. See lists:

https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/required-documents/

http://www.visamedicals.co.uk/us-bring.htm

And do read all the information and FAQs on the embassy website instructions. Don't assume you picked up everything you need to know in the K1 threads. Each embassy does things in their own way.
