FYI, I have received the USCIS final I-612 approval by mail on September 21st. The letter is postmarked September 17th and the actual notice was approved on September 11th. The website at https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus still shows my case pending. (use https://my.uscis.gov/ which is more accurate.)

Thank you @J1student. Would you mind me asking which state are you in? Was wondering that (close State/city from Vermont) may be a reason I haven’t received anything by mail yet.

Dear all, I received a favorable recommendation by DOS on the 15th of September. I received a hard copy from the DOS 2 days ago.

1. I do not have my “Case receipt number” yet. How can I get my case receipt number? It is required to check my status at the USCIS website. Also, it looks like the DOS case number and USCIS case receipt number are different.

2. I am also moving out of my current address on the 1st of October (next Thursday). In that case, I might miss my letter from USCIS containing my receipt number. If I miss the letter USCIS is supposed to send at my current address, I won’t be able to know my receipt number that comes with the letter. Without the receipt number, I can not change my address on the USCIS website. What would be the best course of action in this situation? I would be most grateful, if any of you could kindly provide me with some suggestions. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Yes. DoS case number and USCIS receipt number are different. In this situation, I would do following-

1- Change the mail box address at local USPS (you can do it online as well. This way all mails intended to go to ur old address will be forwarded to new address). Having informed delivery notification from USPS would be good here. Once you receive receipt, u can change ur address through the given link.

2. You can call to USCIS and describe the situation.

Hope this helps.

I am confused about the Statement of Reason letter. In order to obtain the No Objection Statement from my country, I need the bar code. I am struggling with the Statement of Reason letter in the application. In the statement of reason, it is advised that I stress the following::

  1. If you are applying for J1 visa waiver under “no objection” category, stress that your government has no objection to stay in US and mention the status of No Objection certificate from your Govt.

Can I submit the application for the J1 No Objection before I get confirmation that my country does not object to the residency requirement? I know the steps I need to take but cannot take them until I have a bar code. Please help! Thank you!

@JaneNC Statement of reason is different than the “No Objection Statement”. You can search the format for “Statement if reason”. It available.
Yes. You can fill the application and send to DoS/St. Louis without having NOS from ur home country. DoS would update your documents but won’t start processing/reviewing your case until they receive your NOS.

I am not sure which stage of waiver you are in and what is your country/guidelines to get NOS from Home country. Whether you are in USA or in your home country while applying for waiver. Please check with ur consulate for guidelines.

Hope it helps..!!!

Thank you @shP! I have just begun the process and the application is requesting a "Statement of Reason" to be included.  In the Statement of Reason, I read that it is required to stress that my home country has no objection, which I don't know at this point. I know the guidelines from my country and cannot proceed until I have a bar code for my case. I am in the US and will be marrying a US citizen in 2 months. This is a circular situation that is very confusing.

Barcode page is required to get NOS issued from your country Embassy  Located in Washington.
You don’t need Barcode page to get NOC from ur country. There must be some other forms to fill out and get NOC from home Country.
In short, NOS is issued by Embassy at Washington based on the NOC received from home country.
Hope it clears the confusion.

Thanks again @shPSo, what you are saying is I need to obtain the "NOC" (no objection certificate) first before I apply for the waiver? Thank you!!

Yes.
You should be able to find the guidelines to get NOC from home country at the consulate website.

It doesn’t need barcode page. Once you get NOC, then u send it to Consulate along with Barcode page. They will issue NOS and forward it to DoS.

@shP For Honduras it only says: " it says I need to send the barcode, so they can send the letter to the Department of state"

It does not say anything about the NOC (which I think is required for India).

I see. In that case your consulate Officer would be the best person to ask with. Or else someone else from Honduras can make a note at this forum.

I’m sorry for not being helpful here.
