I am currently waiting for my J1 visa waiver. I sent all my documents on July 6. I just got a job offer and they have confirmed that they will sponsor my O1. Now, I know that I can definitely apply for an O1 visa while my waiver is pending. But do I need to get out of the country and complete the change of status outside USA, if my waiver is still pending when I get my O1 visa?

Chat with a lawyer on this, please.

Hello everyone,

My process was supposed to be straightforward but it's been 4 months today since documents appeared on the website and nothing...

I sent my documents on March 13th, and all docs initially showed up as having been received May 4th. A week later one document appeared as received on May 14th instead.

What line of options do I have now?

I got my favourable recommendation today. Exactly 12 weeks from the day the website says they received it. Hopefully the USCIS process is quick 🤞

Here's my timeline if helps others:
Application submitted on: Apr 30, 2021
Check cashed: May 5, 2021
Embassy NOS sent: May 15, 2021

Reflected: June 22, 2021

Favorable recommendation: Sep 14, 2021

I didn't contact any senator/congressman, but I did send a couple of emails to DoS asking for an update (not sure if that helped in any way).

I had sent all my documents on July 6. Everything except the NOS has been received.

Hi @vabhi6,

I've sent all my documents on 25th of May. My embassy sent the NOS around the same date. To date, the NOS is not reflected on their website. Only the documents that I sent appear online.

Hi,

I am glad to inform that I also received Favorable Recommendation from DOS.

Just an email stating that request for status update and mentioning its been 18 weeks beyond normal

processing time did work for me. Got FR within 24 hours :)

cong. I have sent multiple emails to DoS. But still no update on the online system.

Hi,

I see yours is 14 weeks. I suggest that you wait for another 2 weeks (that would cross 16 weeks normal processing time) and then drop them an email. I bolded the part want him/her to focus on this, looks that helped.

Dear Sir/Madam,

blah blah etc etc

The case number and category are as follows:

•            Case number:

•            Last name:

•            First name:

•            Date of birth:

•            Basis under which you are applying for a waiver: No objection

•            A brief explanation of your inquiry: Request for the status update; timeline: 18 weeks processing time (beyond normal processing time of 12-16 weeks).

Look one more tip, don't write request for J1 waiver status in your subject line, they might prefer to

just ignore the email without reading the content :P

My subject line was "J1 Waiver (Case No: XXXXXX, Category: No objection)."

Hope this helps and you get your FR soon :)
